I recommend making sure you know who Putnam Handyman is sending to your house & call references, even if you are a repeat customer. Here is why….. I had an in-wall air conditioning unit installed by PH in June 2022. Overall, this installation was cut & dry with a few fixes along the way. The experience was fantastic so I called on them again in May 2023 to replace another in-wall AC unit that was leaking. This installation was not as cut & dry but absolutely doable. It became clear quickly that the lead technician was not happy with the job. I explained that I understood it was different than the job in 2022 and the AC & sleeve I purchased met the specs I was given so I was not being unrealistic. It ended up taking about 1½ days & I was completely fine with paying more for the extra work but the installation was flawed. I sent an email with pics detailing the flaws; foam sealant used on outside looked terrible, trim around the unit was not set correctly and there was a gap under the unit that needed to be sealed. I also requested they send the team they sent in 2022 to fix the problems. PH called me to discuss the email. I agreed to having the team who installed it come back & we agreed on a fair price for the installation. When they came back to fix their work, the same complaints were lobbied. Again, I explained that I understood, I got the materials according to the specs they provided, etc. Now here we are in 2025 and the poor installation has created damage. The technician installed the AC too close to the electric baseboard heater and since this was a colder winter compared to the year before, the bottom trim has warped quite significantly. I didn’t discover the damage until a few weeks ago because I cover front of my ACs when the weather cools. I emailed PH with pics but since their warranty expired, I would need to pay to have it fixed. While I respect the timing of the warranty, I am still disappointed that Putnam Handyman isn’t willing to fix a job that was obviously done incorrectly by their technician. So, here I am taking this story to internet to warn others.

I paid over 1000 to have this company assemble a shelter logic garage. The directions stated two guys 2.5 hours. It took them 9 plus hours and a grand later. The project seemed fine except the workers had to leave at end of day. They left doors off. So I called Glenn and he said he would wave the service call and send them back. They came back and did the doors. All seemed fine except the garage blew over this winter. Now the garage provides2 ft anchors to tie down. I called and texted Glenn and he ignored me. So I revised him and sure as god made apples he called me right up begging me to take review down. I do so in hopes of resolving this issue. I know what big mistake. Glenn gave me this crap that his company has a policy not to repair work they don’t guarantee. I never heard of this. He also accused me of not paying bill in full. I have checks and to boot I have his workers (good guys) 100 cash tip. This guy is not honorable and I would never use him. He will see me in court. Thank you for your time

Terrible! Don’t let their sales pitch fool you. Glenn and Bill profess to have loads of professional people working with them. They do not. Bill works on the jobs and Glenn does office work. Their 1 excellent worker, Tony, quit while working on our job. He was the only skilled worker. The work done by anyone else was sub-par to mediocre. They did not have the resources needed to bid in our job. It was way over their heads. After waiting 6 weeks for kitchen cabinet delivery, we discovered that Glen had never even completed the order. They walked off the job when they realized how over their heads they were. Leaving us at the holidays with no basement, no kitchen and having to sue them to get our $20K deposit back! STAY AWAY!

Bill and Joe came on time and made every effort to finish the job in the time that had been allotted. Unfortunately, through no fault of theirs, the work took a bit longer than expected. They are forward thinking and problem solving: making suggestions for improvements but allowing me to make the final decision. They are flexible and accommodating: willing to add to the job as needed. They were prepared with anything they might need to handle the unforeseen and if they didn't have it they went out and got it. Bill is also clearly concerned with providing quality craftsmanship (and I'm picky) as well as cleanliness at the close of the work day (again, I'm picky). And, I think it's worth mentioning that they don't just sit around when paint is drying. Bill asked how else he might help and so he fixed a loose leg on a bench, and helped me reach a tough light bulb rather than sit around and wait. Very nice! I imagine one could find lower prices, but I am always willing to pay well for no-hassle, professional, reliable, quality work.

Glenn and Billy are great. They respond to my calls quickly. They communicate appropriately and they do a great job.

Because it was electrical, a "handyman" couldnt do it. An electrician came, did a good job and paid the electrician fee.

The owner or main supervisor/salesperson gave me an estimate of $1,300.00. I paid 2/3 up front and the rest the day the cover (not the pulley system) was completed. I paid this in cash and was told that this represented a cash discount and a senior discount. PUNCTUALITY: excellent. AVAILABILITY: Excellent, easy to contact, until the last attempt. Some things were done very well, others less so, so the job needs to be divided into: TIMING: Owner pressured me to do it the next day because "the ground will freeze"; this was nonsense; it won't freeze to the point of being difficult to dig holes for at least a few weeks yet. There was a very small amount of snow two days later, now melted. His rush prevented me from ordering a proper block-and-tackle, so I tried to design one, using pulleys I had in the house. GUARANTEE: one year; I requested 5 years but they declined. I agreed that I was responsible for the design and function of the block and tackle, since I thought of it after I got the estimate. I thought that hanging it would take only a few minutes. BUILD COVER: grade A-. Workmanship by handyman A for support structure and cover (hinged roof piece): excellent. Materials for support structure: good. Materials for cover/roofing: fair (plywood's center ply is disintegrating near edge, so its layers come apart when a nail goes through near the edge, minimum quality shingles, no layer under roofing, so the plywood is poorly protected from precipitation); concrete to support posts of structure starts below frost line, but ends below soil surface, support posts are therefore exposed to soil. I'll have to dig it up and paint preservative on the wood if I want it to last. On the plus side: The roof cover works fine, it passed town inspection, oil delivery man will be able to open it. BLOCK AND TACKLE to allow me to lift cover: Grade C. With what I remembered of high school physics, and online instruction, I tried to design a block and tackle system. Handyman A installed it, slightly modified, competently. The design didn't give adequate mechanical advantage; the cover was still too hard to lift. I agreed to pay $ 155 for them to come back the next day to put in a better system, and I redesigned it. I obtained some double pulleys at a hardware store. I made a careful diagram of how to hang the pulleys and run the rope, as well as a step-by-step guide. When handymen B and C arrived, handyman B told me that my rope wouldn't pass through the pulleys, and they had me pay them, and they left. I realized that handymen B and C had not looked carefully at my diagrams. They had a misconception about how to pass the rope through the pulley, and the rope passed through the necessary openings just fine. I called the owner, and they came back the same day. I couldn't be there, got home after dark. In the AM, I looked out the window and saw a diagonal rope: my design had no diagonal rope. They hadn't followed the very specific, detailed instructions I had left. I called and left a message that the diagram had not been followed. I did not hear back. It's not safe for me to get up there to restring it, so I have now ordered 2 prestrung block and tackle units on line, and I probably will be able to use the existing hooks to hang them.

The work was beyond awful!!!!! My husband had started to spackle the walls but could not finish due to health issues. We decided to hire them because of the ratings. What a joke! They painted over the spackle without sanding or flushing the wall properly. When asking for someone to come out and look at what the guy did whom is apparently their foreman I was told no. They had the guy that did the work call us instead of an owner or manager like I asked to speak to. All he did was argue with us and say he did things the right way. He said he was going to sand with a wet sponge To keep dust down. My wall looks like a teenager with acne. He then argues with us that he did it properly and that he told us he was using a sponge. Yes you told us you were using a sponge but if you knew what you where doing it should be flat not a bunch of bumps. He then blamed my husband and said he used too much spackle. He then proceeded to tell us we are getting his blood pressure up and he has health issues. So does my husband!!! That's why we hired you!!!!!! There was also paint drippings on the hardwood floors and a few of the doors in the hallway. We also found paint splatter on the railing, entertainment set, dvr box, curtains and toys. He blamed us and said we did it. That he used drop clothes and it couldn't have been him. HE WAS THE ONLY ONE PAINTING AND IN THE HOUSE! No one even lives there!!!! I am beyond disgusted with this company and out $$$$ I have lots of pictures!

They were great they researched the requirements for a deck to meet code in Mahopac. They completed the job efficiently and the deck looks great. The stairs are safe and sturdy. Billy and Joe were very informative and hard working. I will use them again for other projects.

He did amazing work. Very professional and priced perfect. If there's anywork around my house i need done, he's on speed dial!

The guys from Putnam Handyman were great! A pleasure to walk down the beautiful and sturdy new stairs. Plan to call again for staining and next time I'm making brownies?

This was the first time that I used Putnam Handyman Services and it was a very pleasant experience. Glenn scheduled our appointment very quickly after I emailed him and he and Billy arrived on time and completed the work as scheduled. Very friendly and professional, Glenn offered good advice on some of my other projects and I will definitely be calling on him in the future.

I first started using this company a few years ago when they cleaned my dryer vent, since then I have used them for many things around the house, bathroom remodel, finishing my basement and many other tasks, they can do anything I ask them to.

Everything went great. From the quick responses to the great work, to the price, I couldn't have been happier.

Glenn provided a competitive proposal and was very proficient in the work that he did on my bathroom and laundry room. Glenn and his workers were very professional and the overall job was completed on time. I would highly recommend his company and I plan on using his company again in the future for more work around my home.
