He provided a verbal estimate for the job, it sounded good, so I said
fine, do the job. I was very happy with the work. They showed up when he said they would and the work was done in a reasonable amount of time,all very professional.
Until I got a bill that was for 50% more than the estimate! It was an
itemized bill covering everything right down to how many staples were
used on the job. From what I could tell, it was an honest bill, I don't
have issue with the prices or amount of labor performed. I understand
that jobs can take more time than expected or parts may cost more, but I
felt this was excessive. My big issue was why it was so far off from
the estimate. When I contacted him about this, he seemed quite surprised
that I had a problem with this. He said since I seemed eager to get the
job done, he figured that the price didn't matter much to me. I was
informed that we both learned a valuable lesson in this; he, that he
shouldn't do estimates "off the cuff" and me, that I should ask for a
written estimate. His meaning being that if I had requested a written estimate, he would have taken the time to itemize the estimate more accurately and it would have been closer to the final price. Honestly, I expected more from a "professional". Giving estimates is a big part of the job and should be accurate even "off the cuff".
In the end, we agreed to split the difference on the cost.
Again, I can't complain about the work.

He is professional and honest. He fixes the problem the first time properly. I would recommend him to anyone.
