"Your kind comments are deeply appreciated. We have shared them with our staff - to them the credit is due and and it never fails to lift their spirits! Thank You,"
"Your kind words are high praise indeed and much appreciated by all of us at The Insulation Man."
We were given a choice of dates for the work, with the understanding that we needed to vacate while work was in progress. I booked the first date available, and they arrived at the time promised. I in several times during the day and felt assured that everything was being done as agreed. My questions were answered and we were consulted at various points as to our preferences on minor details.
As promised, they completed mid-afternoon the same day, and follow-up air infiltration testing was done to validate the improvements made.
Care was taken with tarps put down, old fiberglass that had to be removed in certain places was bagged up and carried off. After sweeping, a vacuum was used. Each employee was courteous and knew their jobs.
"We think replacing the doors are a fine improvement and this was an issue that was discussed. The free or low-cost energy audit is part of a state sponsored program that seeks to encourage homeowners to make sound investments in energy efficiency and energy conservation improvements. The cost of the improvement suggested by the homeowner- replacing the doors - would not pass the state program requirements for payback (or savings-to-investment ratio). In this case, replacing the doors himself would be a better option for him than paying us to do this work. Although, our suggestion to try weather stripping and air sealing the door are other low cost alternatives in these situations. Modern doors are a minor improvement in terms of their insulation values over their older counterparts. Our recommendation, in terms of the program, was to insulate and air seal an overhang and the rim joist - improvements that are not easily accomplished by most homeowners and are best done with trained personnel with the proper equipment. Unfortunately, the modeling process we undertake as part of the state program would not yield a positive savings vs. investment ratio for these suggested improvements either. We do our best to recommend improvements that we think will yield the highest benefit for the homeowner at the lowest cost. This includes maximizing the benefits from the programs as well as being mindful of what the homeowner can do on their own. We did not model the attic as our technician felt that this was not a major issue, although he probably mentioned it as an area that would benefit from some attention. The best we can do in these situations is to provide the homeowner with the information to make the best informed decision."
