Called on a Friday and got an appointment the following week. Very professional. Called ahead to update me on arrival time. Measured the square footage, gave me an the cost, and got right to work. Moved all furniture I asked them to. Carpets looked great after.

We were surprised that they sent 3 people to do such a small apartment, but we figured that meant they'd do a great job and finish sooner. Boy, were we wrong! As I mentioned, they took over seven hours during two days to complete the job. We wondered what they were doing for so long, because they always seemed to be on break or having lunch when we stopped in. When they finished, we did a superficial survey (checked tops of doors and window frames for dust, etc), and signed off on the work order. BIG MISTAKE. After they left, we did another check and found that they had failed to clean inside cabinets, shelves, behind the fridge, ceiling fans, even the knobs on the kitchen cabinets. We also found cobwebs in windows dripping with dry chemical dust, and dust all down the stairs up to the apartment. In addition, we discovered scratches on a kitchen counter and stains on the kitchen linoleum that had not been there before they began. Their rep came out and took a look and was clearly disgusted with the quality of the work done (and the work not done). He promised that they would "take care of" the damaged counter and the stains on the floor. He actually made the scratches worse by trying to do a quickie fix on them. About a week later, we got a revised price on the work and an offer to pay for a new countertop, but not the installation, which we would have to pay for. We argued over the price quote and they revised it a second time, but did not change their offer on the countertop. We offered to forget the countertop repair and pay them half of the original quote, since we had calculated that was about how much of the quoted work had actually been done, not necessarily satisfactorily. They rejected our offer and threatened to turn us in for collection if we didn't pay. In order to put the matter to rest, we gave up on any fix to the counter top, or the kitchen floor, and paid the second revised quote of $1100 and change. We would not recommend that these people be hired to clean up anything for anyone. They have been informed that we were making this report. We have heard nothing from them since they cashed our check, although they certainly had plenty of time to contact us before we filed this report.
Response from ServiceMaster By Burch
"Unfortunately, our company was blamed for scratches on the counter after a fire. We never took responsibility for scratching the counter and assumed it was caused during the time the fire was ongoing and put out by the fireman. The counters were covered in soot when we arrived and no scratches would have been detectible until they were cleaned. We agreed to some credit to get the claim closed as it was obvious, they were not going to be satisfied. The insureds were hardly there during the cleaning. Reporting our workers were on break the entire time without being there to actually see the work in progress was unjustified. We agreed there were some items missed and agreed to go back and take care of those issues. We were told the tenant and insured cleaned items themself and we agreed to adjust the invoice. I am sorry we were unable to make the insureds happy but unfortunately, there was nothing else we could do other then agreeing to do the work for free that would have pleased them. We have many happy customers that call us again and again for their cleaning needs."
