This has not been a good experience. Even though I've done business with this bicycle shop before I can assure you I will not be taking my business there in the future which is really unfortunate as I'm a bicycle enthusiast and have quite a collection of both old and new bikes so a good, honest mechanic is definitely a plus. To reiterate the story above: I took my bicycle in for repair of the drailleur and the respective end piece for and estimated cost of $40.00 - $60.00. When the work was completed, I was told the price was $150.00 as the chain had been broken while in the shops possession and needed to be replaced. When questioned about the added part, I was told that the chain had been removed to put on the derailleur, was put back and ultimately broke while the mechanic (Joan Mecklenborg) was riding it around the parking lot. I was taken aback at being charged for a chain that the mechanic admitted to breaking as well as the labor to replace it. When I told the mechanic I would not pay the additional charges, she told me she would sell my bike in lieu of payment. Consequently, I was forced to present her with a letter demanding return of my bicycle within 24 hours or she would be facing theft charges. When I went back to recover my bicycle, she again stated I could have it when I paid the entire bill for it at that point I was left with no other option than to call the Broome County Sheriff on her. At this point, she is removing the items she added without authorization. The bill is still at least $30.00 over the original estimate due to added labor charges for unauthorized work & parts so needless to say, I'll be seeing her in court.
