We have had issues with runoff in two areas that basically stream water down. This did not exist before our new roof The worst is three years later our roof is leaking like crazy. When we realized it was middle of the winter and not amenable for working up on the roof. We placed buckets under the drips and hoped for good weather. He did come by once to say his cricket was faulty and replaced. He thought also the problem was our chimney. We then paid masons to repoint the chimney. But it still is leaking. Now that we have good weather we have heard not a peep from Bob. Very very disappointed.

They were good. They weren't the cheapest, but the weren't the most expensive. The quality was excellent. There were a bunch of people that came out. There was six. They completed the work in a day, and they left the area clean.

If I could give him A++++++++++ I would. He was prompt helpful and honest. If I ever need a roof I would only use him. He was recommended to me by a friend who had her entire roof replaced by him. She said he was the best roofer she has ever come across

Ten people came to complete the work and it took one day.  They were recommended by friends.  He gave me a reference list with lots of people on there.  They arrived on time, were personable, hard workers, and did an amazing job.

Bobs crew ripped the roof and the siding off and  replaced the bad plywood. They did a really good job and I would recommend Highlander Roofing to anyone that needs a new roof. Best part all done in one day and my yard was spotless.

They were excellent and I highly recommend them. They are very professional. Our experience with them was excellent. We got three estimates from three different roofers. Both my husband and I were extremely impressed. The gentleman sat down with us and went over line by line exactly what was included in the estimate. We do not know anything about roof. So, when we had estimates from other people, they were not so upfront. He gave us an excellent quote. When he was finished with that job, there was not one nail on my driveway. They went over with a magnetic sweeper. When they left here, you would not even know that any work was done with the house. They were really good. Everything stood out to me, the way he presented himself in terms of telling us exactly what they were going to do in terms of the roof. He laid out everything, and everything was in writing. He showed up when he said they were going to show up in a certain date. I think they had cancelled once because of the weather, but when they said they were coming on a specific time, his crew was here. There were five to six men in the crew. I knew he has several crews. The owner came by several times during the day to make sure that the job was being well done or taken cared of. When we called when we had questions, he got right back to us. I just found his company as what you should expect from any kind of contractor. He was not the most expensive, but he was not the cheapest. I thought his price was right on target in terms of what these things cost.

HIGHLANDER did my roof about 10 years ago. They did a good job back then and we were very pleased, HOWEVER we developed a couple of leaks recently and when I called them , I DID NOT get a call back. I called a few times !_x000D_|I literally live around the corner, so I cannot figure out why they wouldn"t respond._x000D_|So this is why I consider them to be an irresponsible and unprofessional roofing company and I WILL NOT recommend them to anyone !!

They did exactly what they were supposed to and the roofing work turned out very well. I was pleased with that service. However, they had to hire a sub contractor to re install the gutters. I just had the gutters and caps installed professionally previously. The subcontractor did not do the work properly and it looks sloppy. They laid the caps mesh on top and eventually they came off. They came back to repair it but just laid them mesh on top again. Overall, I was pleased with Highlander but not their subcontractor.

I was first very pleased with a great estimate price relative to some other contractors. THEN, after accepting the initial job, Bob agreed to do ancillliary work like new facia and gutters along with the roofing job at a reasonable rate.
I was impressed that on the scheduled day when, at 7:30 AM, six or eight workers showed up and jumped right into the job.  Then a dump truck showed up to accept the old roofing materials.  A big supply truck showed up later on to deliver the shingles to the workers up on the roof, who all worked like a well oiled machine, knowing what to do and then quickly and efficiently doing it.  They finished the job at 4:30 PM and Bob was quite cooperative in discussing the bill and guarantee and such.  They did a great job of cleaning up, blowing the lawn and driveway and rolling their magnetic nail catcher to further capture nails.
I feel now on day one that it will last as long as it looks since everything was professionally done from start to finish.
I would strongly recommend Bob Colquohoun and Highlander Roofing of Bethpage, NY

For some ridiculous reason, I had expected a taciturn Scot, but Bob Colquhoun was very friendly and took his time explaining all.  My husband and I liked him right away.  He was honest, and told me my present roof would last another year or two, but I didn't want to wait until there were leaks.  His price for plywood was $45, compared to $80 on a previous quote, plus, he said there would be a maximum charge of $2,000 if all the plywood needed replacing.  It turned out that none of the plywood had to be replaced.  Although we weren't shopping for price alone, his quote was less than half of a previous quote, and we felt that he was trustworthy.  The crew of four arrived at 7.30 and were finished by about 4 p.m.  They cleaned up completely, including picking up stray nails with a magnetic roller, though they did leave some nails in the street, which I and Carlos, the foreman, picked up in case our cars got a flat tire.  Bob always picked up the phone when I called.  His crew was careful to avoid the pipe carrying the freon from my central a/c (the previous installer had pierced it and all the freon leaked out). A $200 coupon from Angie's list didn't hurt, either.. I have no complaints.

Bob, the owner, came to my house within days of my initial call to do an estimate. He clearly had a lot of experience with installing roofing in my neighborhood specifically. He went on to explain the tenure of his company, who makes up his work force, and his proper insurance policies. Super pleased with the service, and his professionalism. Thanks again Bob.

Job went as planned. Started and completed as planned, workers were neat and professional. I even got a courtesy check after Hurricane Sandy, but all was well. I didn't lose any shingles.

In 2012, Superstorm Sandy snapped the top off a tree which damaged my garage, most seriously the rear entrance door. What was not apparent at the time was a leak in the roof. When I discovered it, I called the insurance company who told me to get an estimate. I contacted the owner at Highlander who said he would get to me at the end of the week. He never showed up or called. He never returned my follow up call. From what I have seen in feedback, this is not an isolated incident.
If you want and adequate roofing job, you will get one. But if expect professionalism, common courtesy and someone who stands behind their work, buyer beware.
Response from Highlander Roofing
"After Sandy, thousands of calls came into our office. Hundreds of repairs were done, most free of charge.Dozens of customers we just could not get to. This is not a matter of standing behind our work. There were no defects in our work. This was a matter of an impossible workload that prevented us from helping every last person who requested it. Most of the people who contacted us appreciated our situation. [member name removed] cannot be counted amongst them. I regret [member name removed] and all the other people we were unable to help."

I have had my Highlander roof for over 10 years and it has not held up and Highlander does not stand by their work.
Most of the other reviewers just had their new roofs installed.  I was happy at the beginning too.  Here is my story:
You really get to see how good your contractor is when a problem arises.  This company failed the test right away.
The  The first time it rained, the new
roof leaked.  Highlander Construction came and hammered down the shingles, but still, every time it
rained, it leaked and I had to call them.  They even sealed my roof vent! After about 4 visits, they
stopped coming and ignored my calls.  I had to hire another company to
find the leak in the roof and fix it.  It was where the shingles met the gable - they could not figure that out.
When I purchased the roof,
they said there was a 25 year warranty on the GAF Timberline shingles, giving me the
impression that they would last 25 years.  The warranty turned out to be
against DEFECTS ON THE SHINGLES, not on the roof (if you have a claim, you have to go on the roof, pull off a shingle which is about three feet long by two feet high and mail it to GAF for inspection).  The shingles were
actually only warrantied to stay on for 5 years and 60mph winds
according to the manufacturer, GAF.  On Long lsland, a 60 mph wind is nothing.  Our Nor'easters reach over 100mph winds.  So the product was the wrong product, as I found out.
During the Sandy storm, many shingles on one section of the roof blew off like leaves in the wind.
The insurance adjuster said that they were installed improperly.  I
called Bob Colghoun of Highlander about 30 times from December, 2012 to
February 2013 and left messages.  He did not return one call.  When I
finally reached him, he said he would come over and inspect the damage.
This went on for four weeks and he never came over.
I said I had a warranty and he failed to respond or honor it.  He did substandard
work and would not back it up.  I understand he was busy, but he did
not respond to 3 months of messages or come over when he said he would.
Do not have Highlander Construction do any work on your house because they
are not dependable or qualified. They don't even have the courtesy to return a phone call.  They will put on a pretty roof, promise you everything and take your money and give you a worthless warranty.  Use a company that is recommended by the roofing manufacturer.  It is a big investment and it has to be done
right.  Make sure you see the actual warranty and do not believe what
they tell you. I have had my Highlander roof for over 10 years and after they get your money, they will ignore you..
Response from Highlander Roofing
"Shortly after installing [member name removed] roof, 13 years ago, he called to report a stain on his upstairs ceiling. After failing to find any defect in the roof on my first 3 visits, i crawled through his attic while it was raining and found water pouring in through the gable vent of his NEW SIDING job. I told him to call his sider to repair the leak his work caused. I received neither thanks nor payment for my efforts. I heard from [member name removed] 13 years later after Sandy, and while it was my intention to try to be of assistance to him, my previous experience with [member name removed], and a warranty that expired years ago, did not make him the highest priority amongst an impossibly heavy workload. The dishonesty in this review reenforces my original assessment."

I was impressed with their work and they completed the job in one day. They were very professional, prompt, and responsive. They did a great job with every aspect of the job and completing the roof replacement. They also offered a great quality service. All 7 of the employees worked non-stop and the clean-up was very meticulous. They did not even leave one nail on the ground. Their pricing was competitive and fair. Thank you to Bob, the owner, for answering all my questions and paying attention to detail. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone looking for a roof repair or replacement.
