SILKWOOD LTD

Silkwood is a professional company that makes a top notch product. The price may seem a bit steep, but the product and service makes it worth the price. During our complete apartment renovation we used three different companies for millwork. Silkwood delivered by far the highest quality product and with the least amount of headache or hassle. Their wall unit sits center stage in our family room and is absolutely gorgeous. The wood finish is perfect, the hinges, drawers, doors and shelves all glide perfectly and have maintained their adjustment for over a year now. When they came to install the unit, my building started to give them some hassle about using the service elevator. Rather than getting into it, they said no problem, we'll use the stairs (I live on the 4th floor). Fortunately, the doorman capitulated, but silkwood's attitude was the right one: customer focused, get the job done. When they did install it, they came right in with dropcloths, rolled up the rug, and protected everything. Tt took them an extra day, which was not a big problem. They were willing to move out all of their tools and equipment for the night but we insisted that they leave it there to make the next morning easier. A half a year later, we ordered a banquette table and benches with storage for our eat-in kitchen. Same high quality product; same professional installation. One gripe: we waited a very long time for them to build the wall unit. Apparently, this is a small, family-run business, and may shut or slow down over the summer months (we were told this by our designer). Also, the installation date was pushed back a couple times. They said that the lacquer needed to dry so the fumes would dissipate. The same thing happened with our banquette. An interminable wait. A bit frustrating, but in the end, well worth it.
