This company has the contract for plumbing and boiler maintenance at our complex. It's taking this company over 40 days. To resolve a leak and reactivate service with the utility company. They get two stars for having a nice truck and polite employees. Not sure they provided anything else.

"Hi. I’m sorry you feel this way. Due to all the explosions that have happened over the past 5 to 7 years with gas piping, Conedison and National Grid has become very strict with gas. When a complex with 24 apartments gets locked down due to a leak in the house piping, we are now required to bring this gas line that was installed in 1950 up to today’s code. In doing this, we first have to get 12 individual permits for each address that is affected before we can even touch the piping. To do this our expediter has to enter in information about every address. Once we have the permit, we need to get into every apartment to make sure there are no gas dryers, and we have to install the new ball valves behind the stoves . We have to put proper lockable valves at the base of each riser. We have to go through every garage and basement or crawlspace to access the entire gas pipe and remove any illegal fittings and future tees. We also have to put in proper supports and sleeves through any block wall at the gas line runs through. Once all of this gets done then we have to test the main trunk line. Once the main trunk line holds, we continue to each riser. I’m sorry if you think this process is fast. We have done about 5 to 6 of these in garden apartment co-ops in the last year and they all seem to get done within two months. And this always depends on the work situation and where the gas line is located. If I had to guess right now, we have everything holding and the gas should be on within another week or two as long as paperwork is correct at the complex, we will have inspections with a DOB inspector and he will walk the entire gas line from the meters to every apartment. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to my office and we can show you the paperwork and time that goes into a project like this with Con ed. and the department of buildings."

My problem was not with the technicians, but with the owner--whose sole objective seemed to be finding ways to charge more money within the allotted service call time frame. Our gas heater went out on Friday morning and I was told no one could get here until Monday morning. The owner, Louis, showed up this morning at about 8:30. He touched the CO2 sensor and the burner went on. He said it should be replaced and told me a service call is $190 plus the part. Then he said the men would clean the unit for an additional $100. Assuming that the cleaning would be time-consuming, I said, "Fine." The technicians were here--start to finish--for less than 20 minutes. The so-called cleaning was vacuuming for a minute or two on top of the one minute it took to replace the CO2 sensor. And that's why he charged an additional $100? That's ridiculous. He didn't "lose" the men for the "extra work," as he had used as an excuse. He just found a way to charge us more money. If Louis had said, "Changing the sensor takes only a minute. While the technicians are there, we'll also vacuum out the burner, at no extra charge," this would have been a much better review. But I don't money-grub in my own business and don't appreciate when other business owners do. I paid the $326 bill, but will never use them again, and strongly recommend that you don't, either.

They cut hole from my ceiling to check where the leak was coming from. They work hard to find the leak, They offered to cleaned out the place after they cut off a hole on my ceiling but my wife said she'll do it. They are pretty conscientious going up and down trying to see where the water was coming from.

My wife called Centa to come snake our bathtub drain. The plumber that showed up didn?t even know what he came to fix. He tried to snake it but did not manage so he tried our sinks but never got to fix it. One hour
later he left, the drain was never fixed but he charged us 217$ FOR NOTHING. My wife that was home alone with the plumber was not comfortable with questioning the bill when he didn't succeed at what he came to do.
I will never use Centa again.

My low level cistern toilet was leaking where the flush pipe met the tank.  These are old-fashioned toilets that are hard to come by in the US (still popular in Europe), so parts are extremely hard to come by.  I had a feeling that the leak couldn't be fixed because the parts had a lot of wear and tear on them and finding the right parts and the right size would be near impossible.  I called Centa because of all the positive reviews, and within an hour of me calling the company sent Felix and Rick.  After observing the situation they gave me a couple of options.  Option 1: Fix the leak, but parts will be expensive because I would need a chrome flush pipe, and then fitting the flush pipe is complicated because it needs to be cut to size, and you'll never get replacement parts for these types of toilets to be a perfect fit, etc.  Option 2:  Replace the toilet with a standard two piece toilet (which they recommended).  Based on my math, I figured the cost would roughly be the same, taking into account parts and labor, so I opted for the new toilet.  The toilet had to be ordered and arrived last night.  I called Lou at Centa last night and he arranged for Rick to come back this morning before 9am to install the new toilet.  Rick was very clean and thorough.  I am very pleased with the outcome.  I paid about $400 for the new toilet (which I bought on my own), and the cost of the removal of the old toilet and installation of the new toilet came out to $500, including tax.  Rick was there for a little under three hours, which was a little longer than I had anticipated, but he is a perfectionist and very meticulous, so I appreciated it.  Better than having him rush the job and do a sloppy job.  I will definitely use Centa again in the future.

Very professional and experienced. It was a long process as the winter weather made things challenging, as well as dealing with DEP, but everything overall went great. I would definitely use their services again.

After the carbon monoxide detector in my house indicated a hazard, and after calling 911, the firefighters suggested I get my old oven serviced. I turned off the gas and pilot for the oven, overnight, and still had high readings for carbon monoxide. Unsure of who to call, I was fortunate to find Centa Plumbing and Heating's website which clearly states that they can inspect your appliances for common conditions causing this problem. Mario Centa was courteous (he called to let me know he was in traffic and on his way), respectful, professional and attentive. He patiently listened to the details of the problem, and then walked me through a thorough process of elimination, testing for carbon monoxide throughout the house. Sometimes service professionals are condescending or uncommunicative Mario was helpful and friendly. This matters to me as the owner of an old and quot;it's always somethingand quot; house who has had too many people treat me rudely while trying to take my money. Mario referred me to a chimney inspector when we narrowed down the problem. His price ($150) was very fair, both for his expertise, and for coming on short notice. I highly recommend them. If I need plumbing or heating work in the future, I am relieved to have found a reliable company.

Our basement was flooded with 7 feet of water due to hurricane Sandy. As a result the oil furnace and hot water heater were destroyed. It was almost impossible to find someone to do the work in a timely fashion due to the high demand for plumbing and heating services and because we wanted to convert from oil to gas. I found Centa Heating and Plumbing on Angie's List and called them. They were the only company that was responsive and committed to starting the work in a reasonable time. They started in about 3 weeks, which under the circumstances was great. They have been totally professional and reliable. They performed all the work that they promised and we now have a functioning home again. I especially appreciated the high level of communication that occurred throughout the whole process so that we always knew when the work would be done and what was transpiring. They always came when they promised. I felt the cost was very fair for what had to be done. They will be my plumbing and heating company when I require services in the future.

While it took several days (because of a snowstorm) to remove the old heater from in front of the house, allwork was done as promised and crew was professional and timely. Old heater was removed andplaced outside and minor additioanl plumbing was done to accommodate the new heater. Crew cleaned up and left the place in the same condition.
