It took 7 months. They didn't show up when they said they would and only showed one day a week when they did show.

It did not go particularly well.  Initially, the demo was completed punctually, but a pile of debris sat in my backyard from January until June.  Beginning in February, Charles' crew stopped coming regularly.  We had several weeks with no one at the house, and Charles was rarely there to supervise.  The work was largely completed by June (Charles' initial estimates were for somewhere around March).  No attempt was made to level the floor in the kitchen, and the problem was only mentioned after the cabinets were installed.  No attempt was made to level the floor in the bathroom or square the walls.  When these problems were discussed, Charles indicated that he could not possibly have fixed these issues.  I know from speaking to other contractors since, that this is not the case. Charles never indicated that he was unable to install the new shower or toilet until it was time to do so.  We brought in another contractor to take care of that install and to redo the work that Charles' crew did in the bathroom.  The plumber that Charles subcontracted seemed to be unable to install a non-leaking faucet in either the kitchen or the bathroom.  It was a major struggle to reach established dates for other contractors to do work (painting, etc.) In June, Charles indicated that the final debris removal and the securing of insulation that he had run which had come loose/final insulation of the bathroom floor would be completed soon.  The debris was removed in August.  The insulation has never been secured or finished.  I last spoke to Charles in October, and he indicated that he would be by within the week to finish the insulation issue.  He never came.  Calls to his number recently have not been returned, and his voicemail no longer indicates that the number belongs to him.
We were prompt in making sure that supplies were ordered and that payment was tendered.  I wish I could say the same for Charles.  He seems like a nice enough guy, but he is not a good or responsible contractor.
The experience was a good (if somewhat costly) learning experience in what not to do when contracting for work to be done.
