The initial job seemed to go well. The work was completed on time. Steve Currier told me all about his experience and professionalism and told me all about how he provided excellent service after the sale. He talked about how he was local and was dependant on referrals and repeat business. Unfortunately, during the following winter, snow and ice melted and leaked into our kitchen. We call Mr. Currier for assisntance. He did not return our calls or provide follow-up service.
In April 2010, two large sections of the roof became unattached and slid off the roof onto the ground crushing the landscaping below. We also sustained interior water damage due to the poor quality roof. I immediately called Mr. Currier's phone number. I ended up leaving a voice mail. Mr. Currier did not return my call. I made additional attempts to reach him. Mr. Currier was nonresponsive. At this point I did the following:
- I contacted my insurance company. Their inspector determined the problem was poor workmanship and poor installation. The shingles were not nailed through the reinforcing strips on the shingles as specified by Owens Corning. The proper number of nails were not used. The nail heads came through the shingles indicating the nails were installed too deep puncturing the shingles.
- I sent example shingles from the roof to Owens Corning. They inspected the shingles and concluded there were no problems with the shingles manufacturing. Owens Corning concluded the shingles were not installed per their installation guidelines.
- I got estimates from other roofing companies for roof repairs or replacements. Each roofing company recommended replacing all of the shingles on the roof because of the poor workmanship done by the previous roofer.
- Mr. Currier still had not returned my calls. We hired another roofing company to replace the roof on the house.
- We contacted a lawyer about recovering our costs from Mr. Currier. We successfully sued Mr. Currier. The court found in our favor and issued a judgment order against Mr. Currier. Mr. Currier has been officially contacted 3 times requesting payment over a 9 month period. Mr. Currier has not paid the judgment or contacted us in any way to arrange payment.
I can not recomment Steve Currier for roofing, contracting, or any other services. We found him to be unresponsive and unreliable.
