After driving 20 miles on tires, heard awful noise. Turns out our lugnuts were not tightened and we could have lost a wheel.
I feel like they tried to trick us into returning for unnecessary repairs.
RUN!
With shock, I mentioned the fact that I was never told me what services they were doing to my car nor that there was a cost involved. I was there for an estimate only. The clerk said, "If you do not pay for this service, we feel like you are taking US for a ride." He said, "we've got to make money somehow" and then said if I got the car repaired there, they'd waive the diagnostic fee NOW and just charge us the 301.26. I said, "it doesn't look like your begging for business here". We are a lower middle class family on a strict budget and cannot afford NOT to know what we are paying for. It's why we asked for an estimate in the first place. We did not feel comfortable with his new deal and felt we couldn't trust him.
Finally, the clerk said, "fine! your all set!" and waved me out of the shop because he had a lot of customers watching.
I think there is quite a difference in who was taking advantage of who here. This was a scary moment for me and my family who live on a tight budget. We were recently struck in the windshield by a piece of brick or concrete and have to get that fixed on top of everything else. While we are happy to be alive, we sure felt taken advantage of in a situation where had the clerk been upfront with us, things may have turned out different for both parties.
We have used Hudson and Mowins once before and had good service with them. When we called for an estimate date last Thursday, the clerk was pretty rude. Giving him the benefit of the doubt after having a good experience the last time, we decided to go anyways. This experience has made us think twice before ever going to Hudson and Mowen's again.
We're unsure if it's because they are affiliated with NAPA next door or the fact that they need to pay for the solar panels, but the cost of service and the customer service was less than par. We're very disappointed and would have taken it to the BBB and the NY State Attorney General had things escalated further.
The are always professional and honest.
I would highly recommend them.
I have a long history with these folks and they have done great work in the past but they are quiet expensive. They do an expert job when it comes to working with cars. I send all the hard jobs to them and easy jobs to some other people where the price is comparatively cheaper. If I had any problem which needs troubleshooting and needs some real expertise, Hudson and Mowins is the place I go. I would give them high ratings when it comes to the quality of work they do. I will use them in the future for jobs that I feel they should be doing.
