They were prompt and courteous. Dr Spindel explained a couple of options and I felt like he definitely listened to my concerns. I'll be bringing my other pets to see him. The 40 min drive for a vet that knows exotics as well as my dogs is well worth it!! I was seen the same day as an "emergency" which it was. My regular vet wouldn't have known what to do but Dr Spindel has a very diverse background of knowledge and I'm glad I was able to get in so quickly! After an emergency visit, x-rays and meds I was comfortable with the cost.

Went well

We went to Animal Ark when we were faced with an emergency. We had just moved to town and our beloved golden retriever became seriously ill. When I called Animal Ark, I described the problem and they were able to get her in immediately. After examination and x-rays, they determined that she had a pyometra and needed emergency surgery to remove her uterus. She was admitted immediately and her surgery was performed within the hour. During her treatment, we received constant updates about her condition and we were even allowed (and encouraged) to visit her while she was recuperating. I never felt out the loop and I always felt like she was receiving the best possible care. All of the doctors and office staff were so kind and accommodating. I truly felt like they cared about my dog. I have read some reviews that stated that they thought they this practice was expensive, but I really think their prices are very much on par with what you would find at other providers. I have no doubt that they saved my dog's life and I plan on establishing all of our pets with this provider for their ongoing care. I would highly recommend without hesitation.

All went very well, start to finish

When I first brought my ferret in to see Dr.Spindel, the first words out of his mouth were," Where do you work because I want to know what you infected my patient with". As if I wasn't feeling bad enough and what did it matter where I worked; would I be charged more based on my employment? But I wanted my ferret better so they kept him "overnight". The next day I called and my ferret was not better they wanted to keep him another night ( never told me a price). On Tuesday I called he was a little better but still wanted to keep him one more night, again on Wednesday he was worse and Dr. Spindel gave little explanation and still did not offer a price to how much this all was. So, I asked the clerk who told me 400. On Thursday, my ferret was still not better and we picked him up on Friday. At this point my ferret had stopped eating and had to be syringe fed (he could eat on his own when I dropped him off). On that Friday the total cost was 1200 and my ferret snowball passed away 4 hours later. I still do not have answers to why he died and Dr.Spindel did not give concrete answers and talked in circles when asked direct questions. This was a horriable experince, one I hope nobody else will have to go through...and all this happened just before Christmas.

The facility is really lovely. They were perfectly pleasant and they provided fine care. However, the way they handled business was not in the best way. They did a very poor job with the cremation of my dog. I had a very negative experience with them.

They are expensive, but the primary doctor is extremely talented. He's actually the surgeon for the local zoo here in Syracuse. If you want the goods, that's the way to go.
