any leaks were found. Not only did the house show a 20% improvement, the how was 50% more air tight after their work. That means the actual savings in heating will be more then was proposed.
The clean up after the job was well done and I do not have any complaints. Everything was either as advertised or better than advertised.
The temperature in the house is a lot more consistent now. The upstairs in our cape would always be so much colder than the downstairs whenever it was cold out, but in the last few cold days the temperature upstairs has been within 1 degree of the downstairs. Everything is a lot less drafty and the exterior walls are not so cold to the touch. In theory our overall heating bill should be lower as well.
A few days after the work was complete, we noticed that there was a hole in our living room wall (about the size of a half-dollar) where the drill for the dense pack insulation went through. I emailed Econo-Therm and they scheduled someone to come within a few days. Not only did he fix the hole, but he also repainted it and even touched up a couple of spots on the wall nearby where there was some paint missing that had nothing to do with their work. We provided the matching paint but they offered to color match it and get it themselves. When you get work done on your house, little things like this hole are bound to happen. What you hope is that the company takes care of it without a hassle. These guys definitely did that.
We had a very positive experience with these guys and would recommend them to anyone interested in this type of work.
follow up two- All work completed. Best way to describe is EXCELLENT.
Work done to order, clean ,neat professional WENT THE EXTRA MILE. I could write a lot of details, but Excellent can speak for itself.
Use them.
follow up-The utility companies finally got their act together work scope approved and even got better rebates than anticipated. Econotherm is good in this and their follow up is great. When work is complete I expect to update to an A all the way across, B is because not finished yet, but this is a multi-step process. econotherm is the good guy in the process, nothing to indicate that the finished product will be anything less than the professional service received during the inspection.
The two service people were professional and courteous. The energy audit program seems worthwhile. However, the time it is taking to get the follow up work approved is much longer than originally stated. Not likely the fault of econotherm as they are dealing with a new entity(PSEG transfer from LIPA).
I intend on using econotherm to perform some of the follow up energy savings measures recommendations based on my initial in home experience with their employees. I will provide a follow up review after that aspect is, if it is ever, completed. Started in November, I expected two months, not 4 going on five. Likely utility company transition issue.
Great incentivized program, but the turn around time of the utility company leaves little to be desired. There is no one for me to contact at the utility company so I wait.
We again used them to insulate our attic, this time, February 2014, we dealt with Sam Eisenberg.
Both times we were extremely pleased. The workers were professional. They covered furniture with plastic. They had previously told us how long it would take and they were correct in their time estimation. They arrived on time, actually they were a little early, which was wonderful. They cleaned up before they left, using a commercial vacuum cleaner.
We would definitely use them again. They were thorough, organized, on time, professional, a pleasure to have in my home.
i highly recommend them!
When I was approved for the audit, it was scheduled for February 17th. The morning of 1/22 they called me and said that they had a cancellation and asked if they could come right over. I said sure. According to PSEand G, this energy audit should take approximately 6 hours. That they would find all the spots in my house where I was losing heat and and quot;air sealand quot; my home. Something that should be done before you insulate.
The 2 guys that came over didn't do very much and left my home after an hour and a half. One person sat in my kitchen the entire time entering information into his computer. The other did a and quot;blow testand quot; which is supposed to measure the air leakage in my home.
Then the person went into my attic for at most 10 minutes to supposedly seal some of my ducts. He then went to do another blow test to measure improvement. They would not do and quot;air sealingand quot; which they are paid to do as part of the audit because my bathroom which was in the process of being renovated hadn't been vented to the outside yet. They knew this before they even came and it was in fact done only a few days later.
oAfter several days I was sent a boiler plate report of the audit and a quote for over $5000. They wanted to blow fiberglass insulation into my attic. Virtually every other company uses Cellulose because it is much better at insulating. They tried to convince me not to because if I ever have a leak, it will fail (not true). The simple fact is, they were pushing an inferior product simply to maximize profit. The best part was the covering of my recessed lighting. They were charging me $50 per light (i have 31 lights). When I asked what product they used, they confirmed they use a product called CanCoverit. If you go to there website, you an see that you can get these for $16.95 per cover. When I questioned them about the price differential, they told me it was overhead and I should take my business elsewhere. I have since hired another company to do my job at a fraction of the price (more than 50% less) for higher R Value insulation using the same CanCoverits that I purchased directly and the company is installing for only a small labor cost.
There are many companies that do what Econ-Therm does. Most strive to add value to their customers homes, not over charge and use inferior products. If you need insulation work done, I recommend that you NOT use Econo-Therm.
"As a owner of a company that has been around since 1969 I'm sorry to say that this is the very first time that we have had a negative review. When we conduct these free energy audits we are bound by limitations set by the company paying for the service " LIPA" . We are not allowed to deviate from program guidelines set forth for the health and safety of the people of the home. We are not allowed to air seal a home that has bath fans which are not vented properly. We were not paid for that portion of the audit. As explained to Mr Frier in a conversation " It cost $5000 to produce a car which is sold for $25000" Someone has to pay for the hundreds of thousands of equipment, training, insurance etc... over head" CSG the company that oversees the entire program for "LIPA" "PSEG" SENT A QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTOR TO THE HOME AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH WHAT ECONO-THERM INSULATION DID."
