After reading many positive reviews on Angieslist I used the site to reach out to the company. Michael contacted me within the hour. He was patient and professional. He allowed me to send him pictures of the ceiling tiles I was concerned about and offered his expertise and explained my options without any consultation fee. I would highly recommend

WONDERFUL!!!! They arrived on time went right to work. Very easy to get along with. Had suggestions on paint colors an ways to enhance a look of a room. EX: To box in a window seat with 2 different color of paint. We would never had thought of that. My husband and I had a great experience with this company. From the time we met Mike (the owner) we knew we had found the right people. We would be glad to refer them to other people. Job well done. Thank-you Mike, Steve and Tyler. The Allen's

From beginning to end Mike and his team performed way beyond expectations. From initial estimate to final touch up and clean up their attention to detail was professional and courteous. They went out of their way to make sure that all of my upgrading needs were met. I love the way my home looks now. I recommend them highly and without any reservations whatsoever.

The entire experience was very positive. Mike promptly replied to my inquiry on the job, provided a very detailed estimate and reasonable cost for such an intensive job. He helped in choosing the right paint finishes for the historic period of the home. He kept me posted on the start date and, after a few weather delays, the team got started and worked for several weeks to scrape and paint the complicated wood work, porches and dormers. The team was very courteous, attentive and easy to work with. They offered suggestions on a few different challenges, resolved any issues I identified and went above and beyond to ensure ever detail of the house was well-done and complete. They were very neat - moving around furniture and cleaning up everything daily. They even replaced some of the mulch that became displaced during the process. I'd highly recommend Horizon - I hope to have them back this Winter for another interior job.

I am currently in the process of remodeling a house and while removing the upstairs walls, fine pebbles began to fall from a crack between the ceiling and wooden beams. To me, I thought it was a squirrel's nest. Later on while having an estimate done for windows, the window man said to be careful because the fine pebbles could be asbestos. Immediately I knew I had to find out for sure. I went to google and searched for asbestos removal in the Syracuse area. I did find one business that had the latest technology to remove the asbestos. I didn't want that and so I searches Angie's list and found Horizon Contracting Co. I called owner Mile Grillo and he answered. I asked him if we could set up an appointment to have the possible asbestos examined. He said would driving through the area later that evening and would stop by and take a look. After a location error we did meet and Mike did examine the fine pebbles. Right away he said that the fine pebbles was an insulating material that was widely used decades ago called vermiculite and that it most likely contained asbestos. Taking a look on the attic he determined that it was all throughout the attic. It was then recommended that it be removed before any more renovations were to be done on the house. Mike told me what the removal process would look like and how much it would cost. He offered his price and then he offered to provide a price that reflected my budget. We agreed on a price and Mike said to contact him if I wanted to move forward. Soon after we met, I contacted Mike and asked if he would accept an AngiesList coupon towards the work. He accepted and I informed him that I was planning to have structural repairs started in the next month. Mike was able to start the work within a couple of weeks and it lasted for a couple of days. Regarding punctuality, on the last day I was to meet Mike's guys at the house to deliver the last payment and the guys were a half hour late. When the work was finished I was very impressed with removal and cleanup. The roof was now exposed and it looked terrific. I did notice however that there was a few places where the vermiculite had not been completely removed. Also, the guys left staples embedded in the stairs from the airlock system. Overall, the job, I was very impressed with and I recommend Horizon Contracting Co. for vermiculite removal. Thanks guys!

The painters were prompt and always courteous.  They gave great attention to every detail.  Because they were working in our basement, there were many things they had to move around to get to the areas to be painted.  They were very careful with everything they handled.  The paint job itself is excellent even though they encountered a number of obstacles while on the job, such as unexpected difficulty getting the paint to dry.  Their clean up job was very thorough.

Mike and his crew did a great job. Plastic entry ways were made to confine the fine asbestos and old brittle fiberglass. Rain temporarily halted removal as suction machine was outside. Aside from that hiccup all went well with removal and reinsulation. Mike arranged for me to have some time after removal to let electrician do a total house rewire. A bare attic made their job much easier and quicker.

All communication, punctuality, quality of work were very professional. The work was completed in a timely manner and the areas were left clean and neat. I especially appreciate that Mr Grillo paid attention to details that would support the sale of the property. I would recommend his services to anyone who has asbestos in their basement or elsewhere.

Our house is over 100 years old and the paint had deteriorated badly. There was tons of loose, cracked and peeling paint. In many places all the paint was gone and bare wood was visible. Further, a prior owner had painted the brick work on the entrance way and chimney thereby washing out the chief architectural feature of the house.
Horizon put in a prompt and detailed bid for the work which included a step by step plan to deal with the peeling and cracked paint. The owner of Horizon, Mike Grillo was very helpful in picking out a color scheme. We gave him some ideas of the colors we liked and he put together a sample board with paint swatches in various combinations from the color group we liked best. This was very helpful in narrowing things down. We then bought a few quarts of the colors we liked and Mike painted some sample patcheso on the house so that we could se what it would really look like. I highly, highly recommend that you do this to make sure of your colors before its too late. It took a few tries but we eventually hit on the right colors.
Painting the brick work and the old storm windows was labor intensive and far beyond what is typically needed for a paint job but Mike and his crew patiently took care of all the problems associated with painting bricks and in the end, the results were fantastic.
The only draw back was that there was lots and lots of rain this summer causing the start date to be pushed back over and over again and the rain continued once they started work to further delay things. The two man crew that did most of the work were professional, friendly and competent in their work.
What matters most are the results and though I may be biased, I think that my house went from being the shabbiest home in the neighborhood to being, hands down, the prettiest. I can't tell you how many people have stopped by to rave about how wonderful the house looks now.

Workers were punctual, even early.  They were polite and respectful. Michael Grillo was a pleasure to work with.  He kept in touch, and was always available for any questions or concerns I had. His workers sealed off all of the registers and cold air return boxes on my first floor, and also sealed the doorways leading down to the basement.   They left the premises clean and picked up.  Mike did not do the work himself, but his crew of 2 did the work over a 2 1/2 day period.  My only concern was that the work wasn't done in the order that the contract stated, so I felt as if I wasn't sure where they were in the process, or if everything was being done.  I expressed my concerns to Mike who called me and emailed me numerous times to be sure I was happy and comfortable with the way the job had been completed.  After hearing the explanation of the work that had been done, I was satisfied that the job had been completed professionally and safely.  I would not hesitate to recommend this company to friends or relatives.  Mike couldn't have been better in his communication throughout the whole process.

Mr. Grillo was terrific to work with from beginning to end.  I called concerned about 9x9 tile that I had in two rooms in a home that I recently purchased.  After explaining the pros and cons of removal versus simply covering/encapsulating it (which in the end was the most cost effective and safest way to go since I wanted to put carpeting down in the rooms anyway), he sent one of his workers to the house to give me an estimate for the work.  His worker showed up early, and completed the job in a single morning. He left everything clean an ready for the carpet installation as well.  He also was exceptionally patient with explaining the process and taking me through everything step by step, and when I encountered car trouble the morning the work was scheduled, he even worked around that!  I could not have asked for better. Would definitely use him again.

His charges for both jobs were very reasonable compared to other estimates. He communicated well as to what they planned to do and when they planned to do it. He was always available by text/cell call, including early morning, evenings, and weekends. I was nervous about paying up front, so he worked with me on the timing of the payments. I paid for the asbestos job all in one final payment at completion. I paid for the painting job in two installments -- one after the 3rd full day of work and the final payment on completion of the work. He discussed the boom lift placement with both neighbors and got their permission first. They cleaned up completely after each day. They did extra work, such as fixing broken structural pieces very nicely, replacing a broken window, helping me find used shutters, installing screen over gable vents frames. They also gave me advice when I asked for it. They completely finished the job to my complete satisfaction and  above my expectations by the agreed-upon completion date. My house looks great!

Michael was very kind and was very understanding of my concerns with the damage and it's health effects. He also was very good with sharing his proffesional knowledge about the subject and was happy to explain and patient answering my many many questions and concerns. He emailed me numerous times and offered his help and opinion on what i could or should do and what he thought even though I hadn't hired him yet and he was busy going to another job. After I chose Horizon, Michael always emailed or called me right back the same day... unlike ALL the other contractors who never even called back or could only get a hold of after calling them back several times. He knew how concerned i was with the damage even though it was very minor and it wasn't anything to worry about and he set up a day to come very shortly after i chose them to do the job.Everything was done very quickly  in a day and without problems..He was very nice to me and my entire family and understanding to my situation and even ended up only charging me HALF yes half of what I was supposed to pay.  I was so happy because his price originally was way below everyone else. When he first came over for estimate In my many questions to him about other things, like mold he took the time to listen and give his professional opinion. He remembered that i had asked about a small area in mud room where i had some mold and when came over to repair asbestos damage even left me some professional product to use on mold for FREE. The nicest and most professional contractor I have met yet . If i ever need any more work done or any kind of painting or insulation Michael will be the first and only person I call.

Michael  come on time the day he had arranged to start. I gave him the key to the basement door and he proceeded to go to work. He arrived on time every day and let himself into the basement. I barely knew he was there. After a week of this routine he was done. I paid him half at the beginning and the other half at the end. The charges included the before and after testing and all notifications.
