How do I say what a GREAT company Stivan plumbing is. I had to use them again this year. They are very professional and on time. They all know what they are doing and Eugene is the best!!! If you want Excellent reliable plumbers please call them. Guys came today I asked them if they knew where the water pipes to my laundry room was and they said they remembered. They were so sweet. They also finished the job in no time and got me up and working again. You can’t go wrong with them. Incredible people and honest too.

The conversion went well, it just took about 2-3 years. In fairness, Con Ed was taking a long time, and there was a gas explosion in NYC when the job just started, so everything was done very, very carefully by Con Ed. Stivan has been in business for years, and we have been using them for about 40 years. They are always extremely reliable, able to send someone quickly, and do repairs very quickly when there is an emergency - they have been a lifesaver many times.

I was aware that the blow-down valve on our heater was not shutting off completely and needed to eventually be replaced. I was home sick from work and decided it was a good time to try to schedule it for the day. I called several plumbers and got a sense of ballpark prices and the degree of complexity of the service. Stivan said they could come at 2 PM and gave a ballpark price of around $175 for labor + $40 for parts. The price seemed right and they were available. They were VERY pleasant and friendly. At about 2:30 I called to confirm they were still coming. They were extremely apologetic and explained "our guy is just running a little late on the previous job." At 4:00 PM Stivan calls to ask if they could come the next day. I flatly said, "No." Then I changed my mind and told them we could reschedule, at which time they insisted they'd be there in 15 minutes. Their service man arrived shortly thereafter and replaced the valve in 27 minutes. He timed himself and was impressed with the ease of the job. The job ticket reads: Start Time 4:45. End Time 5:15. James was very neat and courteous. Here's where it got dicey. James asked me how much the office said they were going to charge. I told him I didn't recall exactly but that I had been quoted prices from several companies ranging from $120-140/per hour labor, and $20-40/in parts. I told him I thought his company said $175 for labor and $40 for parts. He called his office and handed me a bill for $285.00!!! CASH ONLY!! THEN HE SAYS IF I WANT TO PAY WITH A CHECK IT WILL BE $352 FOR TAX. I told James, who was lovely up until this time, that I wasn't paying that amount of money. He told the woman on the phone, the one who was so nice earlier. She told him to tell me to keep my money and that he should remove the part. James picked up his wrench and went walking toward the furnace. I realized he'd been down this road before. I knew the other plumber could come the next afternoon, but in the meantime it's freezing outside and my family would be pretty upset if there was no heat tonight. I asked him to stop and told him I'd write a check for $225, which I thought was more reasonable. His office said no, to take the part out. I wrote a check for $285. As I'm writing the check he tells me very strongly, standing right over my shoulder, that it must be made to cash. I guaranteed James that I would not be using his company again under any circumstances and that he should deliver the message to his boss.

Now this company came highly recommended to me and I can see why. He does great work and really knows his stuff. I would use him again. I would also let others know, that he does very good work and cares about making sure you are satisfied with his services. That is a rather nice feeling to obtain, when someone works for you. I can not remember accurately what he charged me for my basement work at this point in time.

I AM DISAPPOINTED WITH STIVAN PLUMBING BECAUSE THEY KEPT ON GIVING ME A HIGHER PRICE AS THE JOB WENT ON. FOR THE PRICE I PAID STIVAN SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE INFORMATIVE.
