We've had our cat for sixteen years. She has been completely healthy all her life. Towards the end of the summer, she became infested with fleas. As the cat had never had fleas before, we went through all the varous methods of removing them from our home and cat: extra vacuuming, diatomaceous earth, spraying, etc. On a Saturday evening we shampooed the cat with Hartz flea shampoo and awoke the next morning to find our cat unable to walk. The shampoo's ingredient pyridine was the culprit. We rushed the cat over to the Steinway Animal Hospital where they saw her that morning. Her care was excellent, the staff was truly empathetic, and after a three day stay our cat slowly has come back to her full self.
The reason for the grade of B? Two reasons: One, the owner demanded full payment immediately. We have been coming here with both our pets for over a decade and I was a little put off at his inflexibility at the possibility of paying this off at $200 a month. Secondly, there seems to be so many different veternarians with varied schedules working there that it's very difficult to get a continuity of care for your animal. When I brought my cat my back in a follow up visit, a third vet checked her out and was unaware of bloodworks which had already been done.

Overall, Steinway Animal Hospital is excellent, especially for people with pets in Astoria, Sunnyside, Woodside, etc. The staff is always available and Dr. Tadros is easy to reach by phone in emergencies. I've talked with other clients in the waiting room and they are also happy with the care their pets receive. Another good thing is that appointments are easy to get and I never sit endlessly in the waiting room. The hospital accepts Pet Assure pet insurance.
