Vogel Painting

My experience with Bobby Vogel was very negative. I found him to be emotionally immature and unable to diplomatically handle problems that arose. He became angry and abusive when questioned or confronted. It was an extensive and expensive painting job. The price was $19,300. Following are problems and contract violations I had to endure. Without my knowledge or permission, Bobby took my storm windows off the property for painting. When he brought them back, he didn?t want to put them back in the windows, even though he had taken them out. As usual, he was in a hurry and broke one window as he was hammering it in upside down. He never repaired it nor offered to pay for repair of the window. When I was removing the broken glass from the window in preparation for repair, I realized that it had not been primed nor given the 2 finish coats, as specified in the contract. I realized he had taken the storm windows off the property and given them a quick finish coat so that they would look good. Needless to say, they are now failing. The painting of my barn was not well done. On the back of the barn, the former color is showing through. It was not primed nor painted properly. Not enough paint was applied. Two of Bobby Vogel?s workmen are alcoholic. Bobby normally left early Friday morning for his wife?s summer home in Lake George. One particular weekend, he paid for a motel room down the road for his workers. On Saturday morning, one of his workers arrived drunk and could hardly walk. I learned from another of his workers that 2 of the crew had had so many DUI?s that they had lost their licenses. One of these men slipped and slashed a screen with his scraping knife. When brought to Bobby?s attention, he denied it. When Bobby was looking at the job, he told me he knew a man who could provide antique window glass to replace broken panes of my home. Later, when the job was underway, he said, ?yes?, he knew of a man who had the antique glass, but I would have measure for the glass and to go to his store and purchase the glass. Bobby misled me. He left the job not replacing broken windowpanes and actually broke new ones while working on the job. I complained to both Miller Paint and Benjamin Moore Paint Company about Bobby Vogel. Benjamin Moore sent out a representative. She confirmed my discovery about the storm windows that they had not been primed nor given 2 coats of primer as specified in the contract. She also confirmed the back of the barn had not been properly painted. Regarding payment, Bobby wanted to be paid in thirds. I paid one third of the monies by check before the work started. He insisted the second payment be made in cash. I was uncomfortable doing this, however, due to his angry and abusive nature, I relented. He had an accountant that brought paychecks to his crew. It was surprising Bobby would ask so openly to be paid in cash. Do not hire this man.
