He works on a team with his wife - we went in expecting to work with her (on a positive recommendation from a coworker) but he was the one we worked with after the first meeting. I thought he did an okay job. He did take us to see a lot of properties in a short period of time and he was good about sending us many listings, most of which were in within our limited price range. He seemed knowledgeable, but I don't think he was the right personality fit for us. The part that we found most disappointing about using him as our agent was when it came time to negotiate after our initial offer and home inspection (which turned up a few issues). During this process, he left it to us to communicate with our lawyer and was not involved in the process. We were first time buyers, and found this stressful. He kept saying, ?This is the best deal you?re going to get? and implying we would lose the house if we asked for a better deal from the seller. I agreed that the house was a good deal and knew we wanted to purchase it, but felt a little bit dismissed and pressured when the home inspection turned up some issues. Looking back, I also get the sense that our contract could have been written a little bit more in our favor in the slow real estate market. I wanted to ask for a credit for a refrigerator, but I didn't push, so it was not included, for example. Overall, I wanted a stronger advocate and a little more hand-holding during this stressful time. I know what I am looking for in the future - and we did wind up buying a really lovely house, so the experience was still positive in the end. Tom earned a 3% commission. I wouldn?t use him again.
