Joe Ferracane has been my slate roofer for over 20 years, and he has also done general contracting and masonry work on my house and garage. He is a one-man operation and a powerhouse. His work is of the highest quality, he works quickly and cleanly, and his prices are always fair and reasonable. I wouldn't trust anyone else to touch my 100+ year old roof and chimney.

Over the last several years, I've called Joe Ferracane to replace slates on my roof. Slates come down 1-2/year, so he's been here several times. No problem with his work, and he was reasonably prompt. He is a fast-talker (literally) and a fast worker. I've never had reason to question his work or his judgment for these minor repairs, but I've always known he does all the talking. A serious issue happened 3 days ago when a large oak came down, delivering a blow to my custom-built Tudor-style garden shed. Tree people will remove the tree tomorrow or the next day, but we needed immediate attention because there is a hole open to the sky. I called Ferracane, and he came the next morning. I told him I needed a tarp over the roof to prevent water coming in. The shed will need custom carpentry to repair the details on the eaves, etc., and he would replace the roof. Ferracane paid absolutely no attention to me. Doing all the talking, he explained that he'd come back at some point and cobble in some kind of repair for missing slates. (To do this job right, one side of the shed will need entirely new slate.) He claimed he doesn't own or use tarps. Pressed, he said he had some sheet metal in his truck he could use to cover the hole. He then abruptly left for his truck. Rather than return with the sheet metal, he simply drove away. So use him for your occasional repair work, but avoid this guy if you have a special project.

Excellent. One thing that really impressed me was that he didn't recommend work that wasn't necessary at this time.

Called Joe early, before weather warmed up enough for him to get on slate roof. He came during a brief warm spell in the spring, examined roof, replaced a substantial number of slates, and reduced his price because the job didn't take as long as he had estimated! Great guy, good work.

Joe called us back within 24 hrs of our getting in touch with him. Several of our neighbors have depended on Joe for taking care of the 75 yr old slate roofs in our neighborhood.
Joe came to our house right on time and did an excellent job. I was so afraid that I would get a roofer over and he would tell us we need to replace the entire slate roof at a cost of $20,000, but Joe didn't try to sell us anything we didn't need.

Joe inherited me from his cousin and how lucky I am. He knows this house and it took several hints from the Universe for me to realize I didn't need to talk to anyone, but him. My house is old with some funky quirks. Joe has a ton of experience with these "grand dames" and know that as wonderful as they are; they can be a bag of tricks.
He started in on the job and in less than ten days the bathroom was done and looks nothing like it did before they started. I am totally pleased with the turn around time, their cleanliness and professionalism.
He is on top of the game and one of the best and most honest contractors I have had the pleasure to work with. I took a pile of pictures to chronicle this job. The transformation was incredible. I am totally optimistic that the place will be a night and day difference working with him. I can hardly wait for him to start on the kitchen. That project is going to be huge just prepping. It will be a floor to ceiling job. Girl's gotta do what a girl's got to do!!!! He is the perfect businessman for working with a lady on a budget. Fair and talks to you like you have sense, unlike so many contractors I've dealt with over the years.

We have used Ferracane a number of times and have always been extremely satisfied and frankly, grateful, that he is available. Over the years we have had a few roofers and none have matched his quality of service and professionalism.
The most recent event was following ice dams on our slate roof. The entire region suffered from ice storms and many people needed roofers. The ice started to fall, pulled off the gutter and slates. Joe came over immediatley to make intermediate repair so that we did not have air coming in the house and to make certain the situation was safe. He then returned and thoroughly completed the job within the time frame promised .
