Heartstone Construction Corporation

Heartstone Construction's name was given to me in Dec 2016 by a salesperson at a large plumbing supply corporation in Albany, where I bought new fixtures for a bathroom remodel. She added he does work for her. Scott quoted me a price on the job after a visit to my home. We signed a contract on 12/20/16, at which time he told me he needed a deposit of half down $2,407.00 (labor only). He cashed my check on 12/22/16. He told me he could begin my job between end 1/2017 to beginning 2 /2017. He promised to call me a week ahead to let me know when he could begin. That time passed and I contacted him and waited two weeks then called him again. He finally called me back and said he had been sick, but was going back to work soon. Told me he had to finish a couple small jobs first. Still no word by end of Feb so called him again. He told me he had been hospitalized for pneumonia and had just gotten out of the hospital that day and would call me soon, No call from him. Two-three changes made on my side during these weeks but I resolved them quickly and let Scott know. Never heard from him with a start date. I finally terminated our contract in writing mid April and asked for a refund. He called me a couple days later and told me he'd see me in court. I filed a complaint in Albany Small Claims Court. Scott never showed and has never returned my money even though the court notified him of my default win. I am a retired senior whose only income is Social Security. I am out a lot of money.

Although my bathroom remodel looks great, I had a huge issue with the customer service. I was told it would take two weeks, it wound up taking six. The bathroom was left a mess during the renovation, nor was there a thorough clean up in my basement post renovstion. We went through three tile subcontractors, and there was no follow up from the owner to check in. There were gaps of several days, at times two weeks, with no work being done, either because we had no tile subcontractor or bc he was "stuck at another job." I was constantly chasing him to get a status update. The owner had a very lax attitude and I did not feel like my small job was a priority in comparison to these much larger jobs he told me he was also in the middle of.

I could go on forever but here are the highlights or more like lowlights.
Signed a contract in December 2013 with a 50% payment. was told he was booked until February. Late APRIL he finally showed up. Was told the project would take 3-4 weeks. By early August he was FINALLY finished. So from late April until early August we could not use our master bathroom.
The only positive is that he does know what he is doing.

the work was not performed
