Because of the size of this job, I researched windows and the purveyors of windows EXCEEDINGLY CAREFULLY.  I visited a number of window showrooms, home shows, websites and took walking tours of area homes to educate myself, as best as I could, to every aspect of this huge undertaking.  Before I talked to anyone about making a purchase, I identified the window I thought would be best for my job.
Before I found Harbrook, I had begun a conversation with another company in the area about doing the job.  It soon became clear that this company was not dealing with me in an honest and up-front way.  Not good.  (Beware the 'Home Show Discount!')
I found Harbrook and determined that they represented the manufacturer of the window I wanted.  I went to directly to the Harbrook show room and introduced myself.  I told Mr. Leo Bresnahan that I already knew what I wanted to buy.  The open question was to whom I would entrust this big job.  I told him I wanted a company that would deal with me honestly, respectfully, provide excellent service and never, ever try to pull a fast one.  Leo assured me that he and Harbrook would deliver, just as I had requested.
And, from start to finish, they did exactly as they promised.  My experience with Harbrook, and with Leo, could not have been better.
The job was expertly handled from start to finish.  At every step of the way, Leo Bresnahan carefully supervised the process and ensured that all elements of it were executed perfectly.  The measuring, the ordering, the delivery, and the installation all moved like clockwork.  Leo made many suggestions along the way that improved the final outcome.  He was not just up-selling me.  He advised against various features that would inflate the cost and produce little benefit.  His advice significantly improved my final selection.
My house was built in the 1870's, so there were a few surprises at installation time, but none that Leo had not already anticipated and was prepared to address.  The installers were respectful, considerate, efficient and professional.  When the work was completed, Leo Bresnahan came to my home to inspect the work.  I thought I would get 15 minutes and a visual inspection.  Leo spent two full hours inspecting the work.  He removed and replaced every sash from 11 new double-hung windows to check the quality of the work.  He inspected visually and ran his experienced hand over every bit of the work.  He then went out doors and inspected the exterior.  He took notes and dispatched his installers to correct a few small deficiencies that his experienced eye spotted (and which my inexperienced eye did not.)
I dreaded this job because of the cost and the complexity.  I certainly benefited from doing my homework, but Harbrook was exactly the partner I needed to make this job a success.  I spent $40,000 with this company and have no complaints whatsoever.  (Which, if you knew me, would seem virtually impossible.)  If you are looking for an excellent outcome in your purchase of new windows, both in product and in service, you owe it to yourself to carefully consider Harbrook.  You might find another company whose work is as good, though I could not.  But you will surely not find another company whose work is better.
Thank you to Leo Bresnahan, as well as to everyone associated with Harbrook.  Your efforts are appreciated.

"We regret that your experience with our company did not fully meet your expectations. Your feedback is helpful to reminding us that, while we are working hard behind the scenes with our vendors and products to ensure all parts and materials meet our company's standards before installing or replacing, we can do better, at times, to communicate our behind-the-scenes efforts to our customers. Thank you."

We have ordered several doors, windows and replacement windows for our home.  Everything has been of the highest quality and the service has been great.  Our front entry looks fabulous.  All windows are energy efficient.  They complement our historic home and allow us to have a fantastic view.  Pleased with everything and will continue to do business with Harbrrook.

"We're sorry that we didn't meet this member's expectations. Harbrook is pleased to provide our customers with free estimates. Our representatives do not elicit sales in homes and therefore do not come equipped with information on all of our products. Instead, during our home visits we obtain an understanding of the scope of work, take measurements and learn about building conditions. We follow-up each visit with a written quotation along with supporting product details and information. Customers are encouraged to view and learn about products in our Albany showroom to better understand the quality products we use. Our showroom displays feature products in true settings so customers can see, feel, operate, and experience the quality of our products. Please contact Harbrook at 518-437-0016 with any questions. Thanks!"

The service was most helpful in selecting the type of window we needed to complete our home construction project. It was helpful that one of the sales people in the show room came to my house and looked at the space for the large (5) vertical front window.  It has been some time these windows have been installed and they protect us from both summer heat and winter cold.

My sales contact was professional and easy to work with; the process of getting the quote and having the work started was quick and efficient; the quality of the new windows is high; the installation crew was competent and cleaned up thoroughly, but lacked some care/attention to detail: the removable window grilles were not all installed securely initially and were quite loose in several of the windows (a senior installer came back and fixed these, and helpfully left me with some extra pins and the tool to push them in); on the installation of sash lifts, a few of the screws were drilled too far, cracking the wood just a little, and one hole was drilled in the wrong spot, then filled.
In sum, Harbrook was professional and responsive to deal with; their work was competent but a little disappointing in attention to detail.

They did an excellent job. I don't know if they're applauded as they should be but they are certainly applauded by me. They did a great job and completed the work in two days. The installation included 11 windows and because it is a log home they had to do some cutting to size. They tolerated the installation during winter weather as well and maintained a professional and satisfying service.

They had a professional come out and give us advice on the types of windows and doors available on the market. He then asked us what our preferences and tastes were in terms of the kind of appearance we were looking for. From that discussion we were able to pick the windows and doors that we thought were of the best value for us. They gave us an estimate and they installed everything for that price, including the repair of some rotted out areas that no one knew about below one set of French doors. They did a beautiful job trimming out both the interior and exterior of all the windows and doors. This was a very professional job in which the company installed the highest quality windows and doors available on the market.

Everything went very well. I dealt with several Harbrook employees to order the windows, arrange the delivery, and schedule the installation. They were all very helpful. The windows were delivered on the date promised and I painted them over the next two weeks. They were installed in a single day by a crew of four who were sub-contractors to Harbrook. When they left, there were two open issues. One window wouldn't shut all the way because it needed its springs changed to the next smaller length, and the handles were not installed. The parts were ordered, and two weeks later another sub-contractor (for repair rather than installation) came back and did the spring and the handles. He also lubricated all the sashes since some were sticking in the humid weather. Overall, it was a big job and Harbrook handled it well. I know that big windows in an old house can be challenging since nothing is level or square, but they took their time and fitted everything correctly.
