We are one of those families, building our lives from generation to generation. It began over four decades ago when George Amedore Sr. began his career as a carpenter, working the tools of the trade while learning the important principles of honest, hard work. Methods are always changing but principles never do. With that philosophy he laid the foundation for a company that now spans three generations. A company that eagerly seeks new and better ways to deliver the best value, while adhering to the principles and integrity that set us apart. The Amedore family continues to build on that integrity, generation by generation; we are a company that you can trust.
We have spent the last 5 years pouring money into this home to fix poor quality initial construction issues. Corners were cut everywhere that was out of sight. Most reviews of homebuilders are based on the first impression of a new home or a new remodel. These are always flattering because the builder spends time and money on the "look, touch, feel" items. The customer never sees all the hidden stuff that determines how a home will perform overtime. It is rare that you ever get long term feedback about how a builder's house performs. Well I can tell you now that the house is 20 years old, all of the poor quality work that was out of sight is now costing us TENS of thousands of dollars to fix. All of the different problems come from a combination of corner cutting, incorrect installation, and using poor quality materials. By the time we have finished fixing all of the problems with the house we will have easily spent over 25% of what we paid for the house. The most recent problem that we discovered was improper installation of flashing that caused water to be directed behind the siding and has been rotting the studs and sill plates. This would have been a minor problem but because no moisture barrier was used behind the siding this now becomes major structural work. The entire house is affected by this problems and the solution is very expensive. This first area that we fixed required the whole front of the house had to be jacked up. I would expect this when buying a 100 year old home, not a 20 year old home. This finally prompted me to reach out to Amedore homes and say "Hey at some point you need to take responsibility for some of the costs I am incurring to fix your mistakes" At the very least I expected them to offer to fix the problem for a discounted price, maybe only charge me their cost. Not only did that not happen, they never ever responded to me. Even with a threat of legal action they just ignored it completely. Unfortunately I consulted two lawyers who both told me that that chances of successfully suing a home builder for problems they caused 20 years ago are about zero. The system is biased in their favor and they have the best lawyers. I was told I could sue the town building inspector or the home inspector that did our purchase inspection or the previous homeowners, just not the people who were actually responsible. Needless to say, I am not going to put this cost on the shoulders of people that did not cause the problems in the first place. I have to say my biggest gripe is really the total reluctance to address the problems. There are probably 100 things they could have done to try and resolve this issue so that I am not totally stuck and they don?t have someone out bad mouthing them all over town. But unfortunately they chose to do absolutely nothing which says volumes about their company?s values and ethics.

They gave us plans to choose from and we were able to pick what plan we wanted. We were able to choose any upgrades and then it went from there. It was a wonderful experience. Most people find building a house is stressful but we found it was rather easy with this company. They stuck with their deadlines and were easy to work with. They were very professional.
Description of Work: They planned and built our new 2 story modified cape home.
