ANYONE SEEING THIS, DO NOT HIRE DENNEY!!!!! ANGI, REMOVE THIS BUSINESS ASAP! Denney is a POS! He has stolen upwards of $500k from people and has a big lawsuit coming his way. He steals money from people in and around Tahoe. Be aware! He'll look you in the eye and lie right to your face with a smile on his. He has a gambling addiction and a drug problem. Slurring old men should be a red flag for hiring. I really should have broken his face last time he came to my house and casually chatted about life over coffee at my kitchen table. What an a** hat! While you're leaving town to attempt to avoid paying people back and/or going to jail, you'll have to face God at some point very soon. You can't escape that one buddy.

My wife and I hired Denney in August 2021 to remodel our three-level Lake Tahoe townhome. His schedule was reasonable - 12 weeks, but the price was a little bit expensive considering that it did not not include HVAC and cabinets. Contrary to California law, he wanted $32,000 down payment. He wanted to be paid on a weekly basis. In October 2021, he wanted $50,000 for electrical and plumbing - that we paid. In November 2021, he said that forced air heating would cost an extra $42,600 in addition to the original estimate and wanted another $50,000. While in our presence, he got a call from the window installer and he was very unprofessional, rude and hung up on him. He told us that window installation was going to be $7,550. When we called the window installer to apologize for Denney's behavior, we found out that the true cost was $5,090. That is when we realized that he is inflating numbers and untruthworthy. With the completion deadline fast approaching, demo is still not being done and nothing has been inspected, the reason he gave that he lost a week during fires and my wife was keep changing things. In reality, the only thing we changed was the heating system. Even though we paid him as a general contractor, we had to find our own cabinet maker and HVAC installer. Both HVAC and cabinets were done properly and on time. When we compared pictures taken in December 2021 and January 2022, there was absolutely no work done. Even no work is being done, he was begging for money that we refused. In January 2022, he stopped returning calls, texts and emails and communications became very difficult. When finally got a hold of him, he gave a new finish date of February 15, 2022 because he lost a month, due to fires, covid and snow. However, fries were over before the start date, and covid/snow were after his original contractual finish date. He was lying about ordering finishing materials and hot water tank. February 20202 passed by with no work being done, no updates, no commutations. We told him that April 1, 2022 was the dead drop date, and he replied that we were unrealistic. The final straw came in March 2022, when we gave him a week notice that we wanted to meet with him for an update. He informed that he had a doctors appointment and would not be there. Surprisingly, he showed up around 1 PM, and my wife and I wanted to talk to him. He said he had no time for us and walked away. At this time, we fired him on the spot and gave him ten minutes to remove his equipment from the house. At 6 month into the project, we paid him over $140,000 and demo was still not done, only footings and reinforcements for a small extension were inspected by the city He did not pay either plumbing or electric subcontractors. As a result, there is a mechanical lean against our property and we are going to court. He is unknowledgeable when comes to construction. He promised a large open area at entry when supporting poles needed to be installed for the powder room above. He could not read plans, people came over to tell him how to reinforce the foundation. His work was done with poor quality, it needed to be redone to pass city inspection.

$70,000
Do not work with Denny Coughlin. My husband and I hired Denny as a General Contractor for a remodel (paid $70k). Denney repeatedly missed deadlines, lied about ordering materials, then filed for bankruptcy, abandoned our project, and ultimately stole over $10,000 from us. See below for more details. At first the project seemed promising — demo was successful, electric was underway, floors installed, kitchen cabinets were being assembled. We paid ever installment on time, but then dates began to slip and work was not getting done. If it was “done”, it was poor quality. And I mean BAD. For example, a contractor had to re-mud our new walls because the painting crew painted on drywall before mudding was complete. See photos. Then, the kitchen cabinets were installed in incorrect places to try to cover up a measurement error. The list goes on and on… We paid Denny to order our kitchen counter tops and a new window. He said he ordered them, and used Covid as an excuse for the delays. We went without countertops for 9 months. Since we had already paid Denny for materials, the only thing we could do was to keep asking for status updates. Finally we got a letter in the mail saying Denny had filed for bankruptcy. We called Home Depot, and he hadn’t even placed an order for our window. When we called the tile company, they said our counter tops were waiting for us, unpaid. Save yourself the trouble and hire someone with a solid reputation, and dignity. Denny will lie to you, and steal your money.

Our bad for not reading the July 10, 2021 review by Robert B.. We had the same experiences with Denny. Very nice man, however, he did the same thing to us. Expected payment on a schedule he set up prior to job starting. Schedule he set up looked resonable. The work he had committeed to was not meet yet he still expected payment to be made. The WORST PART is he DID NOT PAY the plumbing company he had subcontracted. He stopped communcating with them and us. Now we are having a lien put against us on our house. DO NOT HIRE DENNIS COUGHLIN.

It was excellent. He was very punctual and very pleasant. We knew right away that we would work well with him. He stayed within the budget. We were amazed by his speed. He cleaned up after work. He added details without charge. He was very proactive. His price was very competitive. He takes pride in his work.
