Sparks Cleaners

For 13 years I have taken my drycleaning to these folks.  Only about one item a year, never any stain to tackle but sometimes needing a small sewing repair and I have been very happy with them.  The drapes I'd found as a good deal but needing to be shortened so not thinking it would be a big deal took them to the cleaners for an estimate.   The seamstress wasn't there but she called me when she got in.  For hemming they charge $15/yard but she said even though each panel was 54 inches wide she would charge $20/ panel.  Since this would double the price of my curtains I thought of just taking them to one of my relatives nearby who has a sewing machine - how hard could it be to sew in a straight line, ya know?  But I thought these are gorgeous curtains & rayon might be touchy stuff so get a professional to do it.  When I picked them up they told me they'd pressed them at no extra charge which pressing had never occurred to me even though I'd dropped them off still in the packages they came in.   Having been pressed they hung beautifully but when trying to measure for curtain rod installation I found they were pretty uneven at the bottom, varying up to 3/4".  Also 3 of the panels had small scorch marks, 2 of them had 3 marks on them, some of them a couple inches long and rather noticeable.  Very, very, very disappointing to be unhappy with a business I'd had a warm-fuzzy about for so many years.  I feel the price would have been fine for nice work.
