We hired Brad Brazell (owner of Sierra Outdoor Services), to do an inspection of our sprinkler system to make sure we had no system leaks and everything was in working order. They did the work and 2 weeks later our crawl space had a foot of water under our entire house. We called a contractor who'd been doing a kitchen remodel for us recently, and also does water remediation. They arrived and an employee noticed the sprinkler drain valve was not shut off completely. He turned it off and the flow of water under the house stopped. We had our plumbers come out and they found no leaks in any of the pipes. All evidence was pointing to the sprinkler drain valve being left open slightly. We called Brad and told him the situation, and he immediately insisted it couldn't be the valve because he remembers personally checking it himself, even though he had no photos to prove it was off. He and his assistant came out a couple times over 4 days and could not come up with any other leak or possible source of the water intrusion, other than suggesting a neighbor may have sabotaged our house. Even with overwhelming evidence, including written testimony from the remediation company, all pointing to him making a simple, honest but very costly mistake, Brad is refusing to acknowledge any responsibility, leaving us with not only the bill for the original work they failed to do correctly, but for the several thousand dollar bill for the water remediation. Of course we will be filing formal complaints, but Brad obviously knows he and his assistant made a mistake. Brad's total lack of honesty, integrity and personal and professional ethics are the worst we've ever seen in over 20 years of home ownership. Brad and his assistant are NOT honest or decent people, and if they screw something up, be prepared to be on the hook for the cost of repairs, and to fight them legally to recover any and all damages.
Response from SIERRA OUTDOOR SERVICES
"We changed out the sprinkler shut off valve for the above client. We left it open over night to make sure that there were no leaks. We buried it the next day and had the owner come out to see that nothing was leaking. On the third day we took photos of the valve boxes to show that they were not leaking. We had crews periodically on site doing other tasks over the next 8days. No leaks were detected. 14 days later I get a call late in the afternoon that the crawl space is flooded and the contractor working on the kitchen remodel is blaming us. We returned 2 more times to the site over the next few days to try and find the source of the leak, none was conclusively found. We showed the owner what the leak would have looked like if the drain would have been leaking like he said. There would have been water flooding all over the ground and out to the lawn. The owner demanded we take responsibility for the flooding and pay the bill. We were told that he would ruin us with bad reviews on social media, lawsuits, the media, and the contractors board if we did not pay. We will not be extorted for money. The amount owed is going up in all the bad reviews and texts we have received. The owner was given the name of our insurance company to file a claim if he wanted. He has refused saying he would rather go to court. We don't know what happened with the leak. We don't live at the house we are not paid to monitor it every day. Things were not leaking when we showed the owner and left the site initially. We don't control what happens on the property. For all we know they may have left the hose on overnight and flooded it, they are currently over watering the lawn and drip system and maybe causing the flooding. The owner tried something like this last year when we fixed a sprinkler in the backyard and then a few weeks later he got a big leak in the front yard valve box. He tried to blame that on us. Our biggest mistake was going back this year."

They did it just the way I wanted, as I wanted it pulled back from the outside of the house. They did an excellent job. They worked really hard as I could watch them from my windows. I'm just completely satisfied.

Aerating / detaching and lawn cutting
Never missed a day and did a fairly good job, if any complaint I would have is one week a dog left his ____ on my front lawn and they cut around it. I could see if it was an on going thing but this was a one time occurance..
Found myself trimming around my sprinklers as if the grass got to high they don't water well.
Overall though they did a good job and a fair price...

Supervisor showed up same day we contacted them. Gave us a very fair proposal. Had technician on site performing first service before he left. Technician did an extremely thorough job cutting no corners. Lawn and gardens look terrific. Will use them all summer. Will also use them to maintain and upgrade all of landscaping surrounding our house.

have been using them every summer for about ten years. They are here when they say they are going to be, and they clean up well. They are reliable, and they do a good job. I feel their price is okay. I would use them again in the future.

Things didn t go well right from the very beginning. The first thing they did was thatch and aerate the yard. While doing the aeration, the crew broke a cover to a sewer PVC pipe in the front yard. Instead of leaving me a note about it or even reporting it to the owner, the crew just placed a rock over the pipe. I called the owner and he knew nothing about it, but he did come out and replace the broken cover within a couple of days. One afternoon ,I noticed a huge stream of water coming up in the middle of my front lawn. I discovered that also during aeration, they had punctured one of my sprinkler lines, so I called the company again. This time, it took about a week for their sprinkler repair guy to come out and fix the break. Now, at the end of the summer, I have a sink hole in my front yard because he didn t replace the dirt that washed away. He didn t even compact the dirt that he dug up when he repaired the line. As the summer progressed, I noticed no real improvement in my lawn so I called and asked if they were fertilizing the lawn regularly. The owner told me I hadn t signed up for fertilization, just lawn mowing. I pointed out that fertilization was on his quote and that is what I signed. I got fertilized the next week. The final straw came in July, after being out of town for a month, I came home to find the back lawn way overgrown. I called the owner to tell him about it and never heard back. Finally at the end of the week after not hearing back from him, I called again and left a voice mail, he doesn t answer his phone very often, and fired his company. It was clear they had not mowed my back lawn the whole month I was away. I had to mow the lawn and I filled two 55 gallon trash cans with lawn clippings. You can imagine my surprise when I got the bill at the end of the month and they billed me for the full service. Again, I left a voice mail for the owner to call me about the bill, but no answer so I sent him a letter telling him they did half the work, I ll pay half the bill, again no answer. I now find they are taking me to small claims court for the bill.
Response from SIERRA OUTDOOR SERVICES
"As the owner I will not normally respond to reviews but in this case I feel a response is warranted. While I realize that we do make mistakes we also will only provide service that the homeowner contracts for. We do expect payment at the end of every month. As a lawn company we cannot work miracles on properties that have been let go for years and where the renter only contracts for minimal services. Small claims court records are available in the Reno court house and are public record. The pictures [member name removed] used in court were taken during the winter because you could see snow in the planter boxes. He claimed they were taken in July. We were not only awarded a judgement against [member name removed] because he had never made one payment in 4 months of service but we were also awarded court fee's, and we had to hire a P.I. to locate and garnish his wages. I would not expect a customer like him to be happy after all this but we do feel that we should be paid for the services that were contracted for and rendered. We will continue to service the Reno Sparks area with the quality and professionalism our reputation was built on. Brad Brazell Owner"
