The end result is a house that overall looks very good. I learned that a color does not look the same on the wall of your house as it does on the chip from the paint manufacturer, even though when you hold the chip against the wall you see how it is the same color. Still I'm pleased with the colors and the fresh-looking house.
Work was spotty.
Good:
NCM's workmen, especially the John the supervisor, are enthusiastic and helpful. They put a lot of care into prep work, scraping and sanding bubbles and flakes in the old paint. They helped me out with a few details that are probably above and beyond, like pruning some high branches of a tree that was threatening to scrape a freshly-painted wall (branches were higher than I could get to with my ladder when I went around pruning landscaping ahead of the job). Workers were friendly, personable, and happy to answer my questions during the course of the job. At the end of the job we walked around the house and fixed details that I noticed. I did not have to pay anything -- not even a deposit -- until the job was entirely complete. One small detail was left hanging when I paid them, and one workman came back the next day as promised to take care of it.
Not so good:
Attention to detail went downhill during the course of this job. Maybe they got tired. (Powerwash, scraping/sanding prep, painting the house, staining the deck and then arbor, took all or part of nine working days; with two intervening weekends elapsed time was a full two weeks).
For example, during prep work they were able to work around the landscaping without injuring any shrubs, but during the painting phase two shrubs got pretty broken.
For another example, when we did a pre-job walk-around, I pointed out to John that the previous person who stained the deck had splashed and dripped, leaving still-visible spots on the walls and cement below. He snorted and said and quot;We have drop cloths for thatand quot;. Well, a drop cloth only works if you use it. They did not take the trouble to spread one out, so the wood stain spattered around. They cleaned up most of the spatters but couldn't get 'em all, so I have some more spots to point out to the next crew who works on my deck.
I did not notice till after the final walk-around that they put a few dents into the metal roofing where they had to walk on the roof to access a wall to paint it.

They were extremely willing to make everything just like I wanted it. They made sure there were no flaws in the painting.
