Doug came alone to do the job about an hour after the scheduled time. He went to my living room window and proceeded to raise one of the three wood blinds in the room. He told me, "Let me show you the correct way to raise a wood blind." He did not turn the blind to the horizontal position, which is what the manufacturer says to do prior to pulling the cord (the blinds were tilted downward). Then he told me because he had a blind hit him in the head, he now pushes up on the bottom of the blind while pulling the cord. This is not the proper way to raise the blind. If a person holds the pull cord out to the side, the blind locks in place every time, no problem. He probably pulls them straight up, which will not lock them in place. I told him to only clean the inside of the family room windows because he was making me nervous the way he opened my wood blind. He dripped water on the hardwood floors because he half haphazardly placed a towel on the floor where he was cleaning the windows. Afterwards, I had to mop my wood floor where he cleaned to make sure all the drips were removed. He also wadded up my linen drape panels and threw them up on top of furniture to get them out of the way of all the water. He did not do good job of cleaning the gutters at the bottom, so, I had to go after him and re-clean all the bottom gutters. On the outside of the windows, he only scraped the stuck on dirt off one window that I could see, therefore, there was stuck on residue on many of the windows after he finished the job.
I ended up having to clean all the remainder of the inside windows myself, because I did not feel like Doug would take care of my house and property. A couple of days later, I cleaned the inside windows, including the one where he raised the wood blind. I did not lower the blind until after I cleaned the inside of the window. When I lowered the blind, the cord on the right was broken and disconnected from the head rail. I have had 10 of these wood blinds in my house for five years, and I have never had any problems raising or lowering the blinds. None of the cords have ever broken. I feel certain that the incorrect way Doug raised my wood blind resulted in the cord separating from the head rail. Also, on one of the large inside windows that Doug did clean, I found a scratch about two inches long. There was no scratch there previously. I clean that inside window myself four or five times a year, therefore, I know there was not a scratch before he cleaned.
Finally, they require/prefer cash only as payment. This is not very professional, and provides no proof of payment. I also was not given a receipt for the work they did. Maybe they do it this way because people have been unhappy in the past and requested a refund or partial refund for services. If my wood blind is not paid for under a warranty, I will ask Doug to reimburse me for the cost to repair or replace. We may have to end up ordering three new blinds for that room, as the company I purchased them from no longer carries this blind.
"I'm sorry that you felt that your windows, floors, blinds, and window tracks were not taken care of properly. Doug has been cleaning windows in the Reno/Sparks area for close to 30 years, and has been a vital part of my business for over 8 years. It would be pointless to argue the validity of your statements, since I was not there to witness it. But I can say that I have never seen him be so careless with any customers property in the many years we have been working together. He has been the picture of professionalism and shown me how to properly clean windows, screens, and window tracks, in the years we have been working side by side. I wish you would have called after this terrible experience took place and expressed your displeasure to me directly, so I would have an opportunity to at least attempt to make it right. And as far as the cash preference/no receipt situation goes, we definitely do offer receipts to anyone who wants them, and always have. We do now in fact give them to every one of our clients, just for an easier way to track everything. And we probably told you cash would be preferable, because your job was one of the rare cases where Doug and I were not working the job together, and it would just make it easier on him to collect payment since I was not with him on that rare day. But I have always maintained as a business model, that we accept check or cash for all jobs, and you most definitely could have paid with a check, had that been your preference. So, all in all, I'm very sorry you had such a terrible experience with Great American Window Cleaning. I can assure you that your experience is in no way common to what the vast majority of my clients experience. We have a large number of satisfied and loyal customers that are happy to continually give us the pleasure of their business. Again, I don't come on here to argue with you or disparage your claims, but to offer my apologies, and inform you that what you describe, is not how Great American Window Cleaning conducts business."
they did not clean the tracks. They did an ok job on the screens. That
was the last day that I lived in the house. The next day the landlord
sent me the pictures showing that they did not clean the tracks. Doug
said that they never said they clean tracks as part of the job, but they
try to clean them as best they can. I would not have hired them if
they told me that when they gave me the quote. Doug would not listen to
what I had to say, instead he just kept repeating himself. Now my
landlord is deducting not cleaning the tracks from my security deposit
because he has to hire someone to clean them.
"I want to first apologize that you had a bad experience with Great American Window Cleaning. I remember this job clearly. We came on short notice and I felt we did a good job on completion, and that you were satisfied when we left. I will say that we do clean out each window track to the best of our ability. We use a wet towel and wipe them out as best as we can. When you called and told us that we didn't clean them to your liking, I offered to come back and do them again, but you said it was too late. Again, I'm sorry you were not satisfied and you were so pressed for time, but I hardly think it is fair to not give us a chance to make things right. If you are still local, I would be happy to give you a discounted price on a future window cleaning, and I would personally inspect each window track, and make sure you are happy with the work. I assure you that customer satisfaction is our #1 priority and I would love to change your opinion about us. Thank you."
