We didn't want to cheap out on this - it's our master bedroom, so Pergo type flooring wasn't acceptable. We really decided that hardwood was the only answer. And, it's just plain expensive. But my husband remarked that it didn't look like it would have been any cheaper from anybody else.
But we weren't having any luck even getting other companies to come out, and when they did, you couldn't get them to actually follow up and bid.
The crews that showed up were professional and nice to deal with. The boss came around occasionally to supervise delivery of the hardwood and such. We felt comfortable leaving the house occasionally with them working.
They sealed off the door to the rest of the house- to contain the dust and noise.
If you are considering hardwood, just remember that it's a long process. Installation, sanding, staining, more sanding, finishing ....
It took over a week - with various crews coming in to do various parts of the job.
The only thing that bugged us was the baseboard. We ordered a lovely wide matching baseboard right at the start. Yet, when they finished the floor, the baseboard wasn't ready and took nearly another 2 weeks to come. Once they had it, the installation took a few hours over a couple of late afternoons/evenings. One of our walls has a curve which they had to craft a specials section for.
We also asked them to order matching wood heating vents for the floor - but here we are, nearly a month, after the job and still haven't heard anything about them.
The lady that you deal with in the office if very nice, and tries hard to keep things on track, but we think project management falls short elsewhere.
Anyway, it's a beautiful floor that we're very proud to show off ... and enjoy each and every day.
