They were great! They gave good recommendations and are very price competitive. Good value for the money. They were courteous and punctual. We had a problem with the screen door and they came over right away after we called. It was only off the track, our doing. They were very kind about it and showed us how to make sure the screen door was on track correctly. We're very happy with the sliding glass door. It is double panes with argon gas between them. It cuts down on the heat from the outside tremendously. We are very happy with them and can recommend without reservation. We would definitely use them again.
Cand G was great to work with from start to finish. We worked with Gary during the estimating and ordering process and he was knowledgeable, businesslike and very personable. The windows were ordered and arrived in exactly the time as was promised. We scheduled the installation for the day after the windows arrived; Chris and his helper, Scott, arrived promptly at eight and put in a hard day installing six of the windows. They returned promptly the next morning to finish the job. The work was done quickly and efficiently; it is obvious that Chris is an experienced professional—he was great to work with. My contractor was onsite during the whole installation process and he said they did an excellent job.
This was a great experience, the price was excellent and the installation outstanding. We would highly recommend Cand G Doors and Windows and would definitely use them again.
The workmen showed up promptly on schedule. Very personable, they responded well to me watching them work and asking questions.
Removing the old windows produces a lot of dust and scraps. They have to cut the seals on the old windows, plus have to expand the opening a little to accommodate the additional thickness of the double-pane versus the original single-pane windows. Indoors, they were good about cleaning as they go: One installer runs a saw blade around the opening and the other holds a shop-vac suction following right behind the saw blade. Inevitably some dust escaped and settled on all indoor surfaces, but not bad. Outdoors, however, I give them no better than a C for cleaning up after themselves. Plenty of bits of old caulking and other scraps were left on the ground. They dislodged the sprinkler system controller box that's mounted on the exterior wall under one of the windows and did not fasten it back again.
The process took three days. They only took out an old window when they were ready to put the new one in -- did not leave me with a gaping hole in the wall at the end of the day. They did not break any of the old windows in the process of removal. They took all the old windows away, and recycle to the extent possible. The new windows are mounted well. Everything is square, windows slide easily in their frames, no gaps or drafts or binding so far. We'll see how the windows fare with time. I was kind of hoping to have clean windows at least on Day 1 of their existence in my house. But the windows come from the manufacturer with stickers on the panes that leave a bit of residue. Removing the residue and workman's fingerprints is not part of the bid price.
The reason I took a couple months between having the work done and writing this review is that I wanted to see how I like these new windows, and how well they improve the insulation of the house. These past few nights that have gotten cold, yes the windows do keep heat in better. The trouble of course is that in the afternoons when it warms up outside, the windows keep warmth out, too. I guess in a heat wave, we want to keep warmth out, don't we? Not much to be done about that.
There is noticeably less daylight coming in, due to a combination of the low-e coating on the glass and fewer square inches of glass (bulkier frames) that all vinyl-framed windows have. But I think I got about as good a situation as I could get for a double-pane window. The screens are great, much better than I thought from the showroom sample. Fine mesh lets me see out better than the old screens.
Chris explained the process prior to beginning and was professional and careful moving my furniture and belongings and returned in a neat and tidy order.
He was very timely, and the one day that he was going to be a few minutes late, he called ahead.
Chris made a suggestion to change out the kitchen window to a solid panel, what a wonderful difference it made in the view.
To my surprise they cleaned the glass.
I love the difference my new windows make with the sound and cold. They look beautiful.
