That being said their work is stellar and the crew is polite and very accommodating. The clean up after installation was perfect.
We love the end result and several of our neighbors used this company with us and all were equally pleased. I would heartily give this company a "thumbs up!"
They installed the gates yesterday and they were just what we wanted. All of the particulars we discussed during the sales call including self closing gates and locks keyed to the same key were delivered. It was delivered within about 30 days instead of the initial estimate of two months.
Now for the kicker. I had estimates to do the same work from 3 other vendors. The price of this work was in line with what I expected and the other bids were about $1,000 more. I highly recommend Vargas!
We are very pleased with the quality and design of the doors. The people were very professional, friendly and efficient. Although the price was a little high, we feel it was well worth it. The problem was timeliness. The first installation date of June 27 had to be postponed until July 1.Then on July 1 they did not show up until 4:30pm, when we had been told to expect them between 10am and noon. However, like I said, we are very pleased now that the installation is complete.
We went to the Home Improvement and Backyard Expo at The South Point Hotel and Casino in March. We saw a rustic-painted gate that drew us in. We spoke with Antonio and booked an appointment for him to meet at our home.
Antonio showed up on time and spent almost 2 hours with us, discussing options and ultimately, choosing a gate design that we decided we wanted to contract for. We decided on a double door gate, 8 feet wide with a solid backing, rustic paint (on the iron and also on the solid backing). We put down a deposit for just under $1000.00. Antonio told us it would take 4-6 weeks because they were very busy. I asked if we needed to install some sort of cinder block column to attach the gate to vs installing it directly to the house/stucco and Antonio assured us that it would be just fine. Antonio is this company's greatest asset... I felt confident contracting with Vargas based off of my interactions with Antonio.
After that appointment, I had several landscapers come through to give me quotes on our back yard. They all suggested having the gate attached to a cinder block wall to prevent the gate from wiggling when closed and chipping/ruining the stucco. In addition to our area being very windy.... all things that you don't think about but wish the professional would educate you on....
...A month passes and someone calls, identifying them self with Vargas and says "your gate is ready, we can come to install it tomorrow at 8" ...USUALLY you're given the option to choose a date and time that is convenient for the CUSTOMER? I ask if they can come anytime after 10 and she reluctantly agrees. They show up a little after 1pm, and my gate is painted the wrong color. It is beautifully rustic and I seriously contemplate having them install it because it was very nicely painted- just not the colors we contracted for. So we deny installation even after the two men are very insistent on installing it. During the time I was contemplating what to do, one of the men tell my mother-in-law that it was so windy at the airport last night- WEIRD... we brush that comment off. They tell us that they are short-handed because someone quit. So I am very understanding and tell them to take their time painting my gate, but the gentlman is very insistent that it will be ready on Monday (5 days later) and I reiterate that I'd rather they take their time than rush and ruin my gate. A week passes and I don't hear back.
...two weeks pass and I get a call, identifying them self with Vargas and says "your gate is ready, we can come to install it tomorrow at 8" I tell the female that I would like to be home to accept the gate and I am busy until the following week. (again, put off by the fact that she never asks for my availability!!!) So we set up an appointment for 10am a few days later.
Day of delivery 8:30am and my phone rings, "Hi we are outside with your gate"... I tell the gentleman that we made an appointment for 10am and I would like to speak with his manager or boss. There were just too many 'mishaps' and I have been overly accommodating and understanding and this male is very unapologetic after hearing what I've
been through. I demand some type of compensation and he finally agrees to give me $200 off the cost of the gate. I peek out of my window and immediately call the gentleman back, my gate is incorrectly painted. He tells me that they are going to install the gate THEN paint the "rustic" on...
FIRST OF ALL any smart consumer would NOT have anything installed if it appears to be wrong.
SECOND OF ALL any employee being persistent about installing the gate despite you refusing the gate, asking them to step off your property, explaining that it is not the contracted paint color- should be second guessed.
THIRD OF ALL how many chances do you give a company before they strike out??
A manager appears on my doorstep 20 minutes later. He explains that the iron portion of the gate IS rustic painted- and upon close inspection, you see thin, fine paintbrush lines- as if someone very lightly used a paintbrush and brushed over the iron- something a toddler could have done.... Compared to what was delivered 2 weeks ago, this "rustic" paint job was beyond hideous and absolutely disappointing. I wish I had taken a photo of the first painted gate so I could post for all to see vs the 2nd time... So the manager then says "OHHHHHH you wanted a rustic-sponge-like paint. I wouldn't have recommended these colors of paint be paired together." ...my blood is boiling... I bring up the point that it's now been 2 months, 2 wrong paint jobs and that I am highly frustrated with this experience. I demand my deposit back and the manager tells me that his 'guys' are working at the airport at night and he is short-handed. I am extrememly frustrated at this point and tell this guy that I don't care what they do personally on their own time and it is none of my business. I am a paying customer that wants my gate as contracted and I cannot continue to wait any longer to have the gate delivered wrong a 3rd time. I again demand my deposit back and he tells me someone will contact me.
A few days later, they call me to set up a time to come by. They cut us a check for the amount of our deposit. Again, I am sad that this partnership didn't work out, however I felt that $2000 for a gate demanded some sort of customer satisfaction. I am grateful that Vargas refunded our deposit. Unfortunately I will not be recommending this company.
