The girls in front play games and leave you on hold for an average 15 minutes. Today I asked for my dog's anti-seizure medication to be refilled because his mail order was lost in the mail and he is out. They refused and are holding even a few days worth of his life saving anti-seizure medication, until I bring him in for $140 blood test on medication he has been taking for 2 years. They say the blood test is required annually, I pointed out the one year is March 21st. At 1:30pm they said they would I called the Pharmacy, not in yet; I called the Vet at 4:15 they said they would do it right away, they did not, at 7:45 they said they would call in 16 pills which are not enough (3/4 pill 3x a day) until I can afford the $140 blood tests on March 12th. The girl at 7:45 had NO COMPASSION like she could not care less. I went to the pharmacy at 8:30 and my dog's anti-seizure prescription was not there. I think they did this on purpose. What kind of place would allow a dog to suffer a seizure, his are bad, I have to hold him upside down to clear the phlegm so he can breathe. Very bad, they could care less, just want money. I am going to report them to the regulatory authorities.

First, we were left in the parking lot 25 minutes, in the heat, after our scheduled appointment. Once we were admitted into a room, our two dogs were taken to be weighed and we were left for another 20 minutes until Dr. Drakeford finally came in. She asked basic questions about the dogs' health and asked about their symptoms. She then took one of our dogs to the back, while an assistant, I presume, came in with an estimate. The lady ran through the list of medications needed so fast, we were unable to understand which each one was for. We were also shocked by the price, which was $381, for presumed allergies. Dr. Drakeford then came out about forty-five minutes later, stating the dog was good to go. We asked about the dog's ears, and she said, "I forgot about that." She then stated if there was an ear infection, it would only be a charge of about 30 dollars, taking the dog into the back area again. About another 20 minutes later, another lady came out with one another estimate. Somehow, the price jumped up to $590. Reluctantly we agreed to it, however once I stated that I felt we were being ripped-off, the lady grabbed the paper abruptly and slammed the door on the way out. Dr. Drakeford then came out about five minutes after that and I voiced my frustrations about the lady's attitude and the price being exceptionally high. She said she was there to explain the estimate to which I stated that she should've been the one explaining the estimates from the beginning. I then asked to speak to the manager/owner to which she replied to look at the building's front door. She then stormed off saying she was sick of customers yelling at her. At that point we decided it was time to leave, so we went to the front and demanded our dog back. This in turn started a yelling contest between myself and their staff. Other members of the staff came out of the back telling us we should go. I told them I would be happy to leave if they gave me the dog and the bill. As I and the office staff were yelling at each other, I was defending statements like: if I took better care of my dogs, we wouldn't have needed to be in the vet in the first place. The only reason we were there was to get routine vaccinations on our two dogs and have them examine a skin rash on one of our dogs, which really turned out to be allergies. Dr. Drakeford then came back out into the front saying, "I tried explaining the increase to you," to which I stated that she did an inadequate job of examining of our dog in the first place (as she forgot to examine her ears), we wouldn't be as surprised by over a 200 dollar price jump. Several members of the staff was just as confrontational as I was, with no one trying to diffuse the situation. I feel that the process they used in examining the dog in the absence of our presence, having assistants give estimates instead of the actual doctor, and having shots and/or treatments completed in our absence, leads me to question if any services were actually rendered. Also, changing estimates to the point of almost doubling it questions if the work is even valid. When I asked to speak to the manager or owner, I was constantly being stone-walled. We were a customer there for over the past five years, and we have never felt or been treated as poorly as we had been today. I again stated to talk to the manager or owner, and finally one staff member said she would pass it on. Whether if he calls or not, that remains to be seen. They have already received their money.

I brought my dog there last year to get a wellness cert for my dog to travel and they did not explain the whole process and what needed to be done. So yes I had a disagreement with the lady at the desk but it was not my fault, they did not provide me all the detailed information. Well went to try to get another one done and they will not let me come back in because of the disagreement. It is not my fault they did not provide me with the full details and that is on them!!!!!

Went to this place for years.  My little yorkie tore the cruciate ligament in her hind leg.  A Dr did surgery on her and placed a metal clamp device to help her knee heal, which cost over $2000,.  This dr had never seen my dogs before and I expressed my concern to Dr Kempf but he assured me the vet was capable of doing this surgery.  A few months after her surgery I noticed the clamp had moved on her knee.  Evaluation by the Specialty Vet Hospital in San Diego revealed the clamp had dislodged, which resulted in another several thousand dollar surgery for removal of the clamp that had just been placed. The vet who did her second surgery told me the clamp had been put on too loosely during her previous surgery (It should be noted her entire leg dressing came off, whole, several days post of, so the clamp wasn't the only thing put on too loosely).  In addition, there was an infection at the surgery site, which the vet said was NOT a normal infection and indicated a contaminated surgery and NOT an infection she acquired from skin/externally.  My poor pup went through 2 surgeries, long term antibiotics, lots of pain, and she is right back where she was before any surgery $5000 ago.  I never even notified Dr Kempf of what happened as I had no faith he would refund my expenses from his vets incompetence. I will NEVER use or recommend West Charleston Animal Hospital again.

This was my second visit seeing Dr. Jones. He was very friendly and professional with my little dog. He gave her two shots and she didn't even react to them, which was great! He also put me at ease after the examine, letting me know my 11 yr old dog is in great shape. I am bringing my newly adopted pom/chi in next week for her first visit!

I've been taking my pets to West Charleston since I moved to Las Vegas 9 years ago. Dr. Kempf and Dr. Jones have always provided kind and compassionate service to all of my pets. They held my hand and gave me hugs when I had to make end of life decisions for my first dog. It is not often that your vet gives your dog hugs and kisses but Dr. Kempf does just that. And Dr. Jones takes the time to calm my scared dog when I bring him in for his shots. I have never felt rushed and all of the staff takes the time to answer my questions.
Their pricing is excellent and service is prompt, even on the weekends. Their hours are great.
I chose this vet because they care about animals and it shows based on their involvement with Heaven Can Wait and other pet rescue organizations.

I am new to Las Vegas and found West Charleston Animal Hospital on Angie's list.
From the moment I called for the appointment, I was treated with respect and kindness.
I arrived early and ... I WAS SEEN EARLY! No waiting.
Doctor Cordray is so very pleasant, knowledgeable and gentle with my little dog.
He did not rush. He showed concern and kindness.
The technicians are friendly and sweet.
No reason to find another Vet. We just found the perfect one

I had a little poodle that had kidney problem and this veterinarian was amazing. I was going out of town and she was worried about my dog so she told me to just keep the dog there in a kennel and they just watched it over and he was on an IV so he was really sick. She stayed with him and as he was passing, she was holding him, she called me and talked to me and I flew into town the next night after their office hours and she met me at the animal hospital and gave us our dog and didn't charge us anything. She's not there anymore but she was a wonderful veterinarian.

I couldn't be any happier with the treatment and service I received from this clinic. I went from having a cat that I was afraid I would have to hospitalize to a cat who is now running around my house like nothing happened.

We used them for one appointment and they were not that good. We spent $123 on that service. They gave the shots and there was no problem, but they gave us a very vague answer about his ear, not a really good medical analysis. They totally overpriced the surgery and it was about $1500, when we were able to get it at another clinic for $600. They never called us back, but they were open when they said they were going to be and we walked right in. We will not use them again.

The last actual visit was a neutering of my 1.5 year old dog. They made me feel like blood work was necessary (they are good at adding on items to charge more) so I did the blood work the overall outcome was good, however expensive and also considering I have four dogs that are patients there! My gut always feels like they put on a good front in front of clients but secretly not. I also boarded two of my dogs at West Charleston Animal Hospital in June 2011 and when I picked them up my 13 year old lab had swollen lips and nose. They had put antibiotic on it but never did tell me what happened. I'm assuming he was barking so they muzzled him for a long period of time...it appeared that his top teeth had bitten into his bottom lip. I will never board there again, that's for sure.

No big story...the vet showed concerned, interest in my pet. She administered the medications needed to address the issues and gave verbal advise on care.

I really like them. I like their staff and I like their doctors there. They are very respectful. They take good care of their animals and it's very clean. You don't have to make an appointment, you just come and I've never waited more than 10 minutes to be seen. I can call when I want to come down and they tell me if there are many people waiting. It's convenient. Their prices are comparable to everyone else. For vaccines and stuff I think they are comparable to everyone else I've been to. I want to have a good doctor that knows what's going on. I like the atmosphere. I don't think they gauge ya.

I took my little dog in for a teeth cleaning. Dr. Kemph was professional and prompt and phoned to report that all was well after the procedure. ... When I picked her up, he reported in detail what was done and what to expect in the future. I appreciated this and I will return as I trust his knowledge and ability.

Our puppy was neutered. The experience was excellant. We were not rushed, encouraged to ask as many questions as we needed to feel comfortable. We dropped him off about 8am received a call by 12.30 the procedure was completed, he was doing good and can come and pick him up by 3pm. Biggest challenge today (day after) is he's feeling so good he wants to play with his playmate and we need to keep him calm for healing time.

The cost I list is truly an approximate. I just remember is was reasonable for such a clean place and on such last minute planning. What I like about this place, is... it's recommended you cold call the place you want to use as a boarder to see the cleanest. This place was great. The kennel we chose was the larger size, I wasn't stressed that he was cramped or dirty. No drama. When we picked him up he was clean and happy, Not overly happy (like get me out of here, but like Oh you're here already - ho hum), just happy. The staff said they play with the animals. I don't think they fib.

Services provided great. Dr. Gregory Jones was excellant. We 1st became aware of the West Charleston Animal Hospital a year and a half ago when we adopted our 1st dog from Leid Animal Shelter (he was 4 months old). When we joined Angies list, this vet had a B rating, so instead of coming back I chose a different place for the pups 2nd set of shots. We never had a pup before so all I knew to expect was what I had read from the puppy magazines. The other place provided the mandatory shots, but not what I was expecting. Because we had previous great experiences with WCAH, we brought both boys in the and the staff was fabulous. 1st, the front desk staff member immediately asked if we were going to get him chipped, yes but not until we had him neutered. The vet checked the ears, teeth, told us right away that no mites in the ears and teeth were growing in good. He told us he was able to only find one testie. We didn't think this to be an issue as we intend on neutering once he turns 4 months old. He quickly explained that one testie could be more serious than two, but before we could become too concerned the boy sat down and his other testie showed up...boy were we relieved. Never having two dogs (at the same time) before I had questions about the boys growing up and on their interaction and the individual health. He answered all of our questions and asked if we had any additional questions or concerns. This visit is the 1st time I met this Dr. and on my previous times, it was a different vet. All of my experiences were excellant. We had brought fecal in to be tested they told us it would take probably two days for the results, they called us before 24 hours had taken place to let us know the results came back good. Recommend WCAH, definately will come back.

As i stated in my description, our visit to West Charleston Animal Hospital was a negative experience in a multitude of ways. I have felt more time than not that this vet clinic is in it for the money and not the care. Yes, there may be rare exceptions were an amazingly caring job has been done for someone, and for those times, I am thrilled for both the care giver and the receiver. The sicker my dog became, and the more calls I made to get the vet and our results, the more upset I became. When I finally got a person on the phone who had some answers, one answer was of course, our vet was on vacation and could not give me the answers I had been waiting a week for. However, fortunately for us, the person who answered the phone was the excellent doctor I have mentioned. I will happily take my dogs to see Dr. Carney if I am allowed to watch the tech staff while they preform the work I am paying for. Overall, I would recommend this clinic for basics like shots but nothing more and nothing less.
