Unsurprisingly, you get what you pay for.
Work began Jan 5, and I was told by the owner it would be complete in two (2) weeks. Timing was not a big deal as I had moved everything out for the renovation and was not planning on moving immediately back in, but the job was not completed until Feb 19 (7 weeks).
Overall, the work was okay, but there were numerous issues. The incorrect tub and vinyl flooring were installed because of poor or lack of communication (the incorrect vinyl was ordered by the flooring supplier, and never checked against the correct number or sample). A new moving blanket of mine was taken, i.e., stolen, from my property and not returned ? none of the subs would cop to taking it. Despite my preemptive efforts to ensure otherwise, the new cabinet hardware was installed in the wrong location (using existing holes that should have been filled), and crooked at that, e.g., whoever did it did not bother to make a template or use a level. Even after re-drilling new holes, filling the incorrect holes and refinishing, the hardware was still not straight! New paint was the incorrect sheen ? the project manager told me I had eggshell on my walls already, when I knew it was flat enamel because I?d personally painted the walls, and had even given them a retail can of the exact paint (color and sheen) to use. Specific instructions regarding how to install hardware for custom closet shelving were just plain ignored? I?d even drawn them a picture, which I taped to the outside of the closet door. Ceiling fan blades were damaged (scratched), as were the new stainless steel microwave and sink.
Everything above, as well as other issues not mentioned, were addressed without additional cost, to an extent. They removed the incorrect tub and installed the correct one. The incorrect vinyl was removed and the correct vinyl installed, which again was due to the flooring supplier?s mistake, not Jet Development?s. The walls were repainted with the correct sheen. They replaced the microwave, and I was reimbursed for my moving blanket, ceiling fans and a new dryer cover, which had been stained with paint and ripped. There were/are still a few unfinished items, but it?d gotten to a point where I knew they weren?t going to be completed to my satisfaction, and I just wanted them out of there, so I paid them the balance.
The place was not cleaned up afterward. The new kitchen sink and faucet were a mess from clearly washing paint brushes and other tools. The counters were covered in dust. Cabinets had wadded up balls of painters tape and loose screws. The vinyl floor in the kitchen was marked up. I'm still finding screws and small pieces of packaging materials months later buried in the carpet. I?d asked for all existing hardware to be returned. They?d thrown everything into one big box, including trash like wrappers and painters tape, old screws, and even one of the new soft-close cabinet hinges, which should have been installed. I found the cabinet that had one new hinge and one old. No one bothered to ask or tell me they were missing a new hinge; just reinstalled an old one and hoped I didn?t notice I guess.
Throughout the renovation, I'd try to explain what I wanted done or how I wanted something done when I got the sense it wasn't clear, but English did not appear to be the native language of anyone working, with some not speaking it at all. Whenever I?d stop by to check on the progress and found something that, again, despite my attempts to make clear what I wanted, was done incorrectly or poorly, I?d let the project manager know. When I'd meet with him there to discuss, it was obvious he was seeing the work in question for the first time himself, more often than not agreeing that the work was sloppy or not complete. Clearly he was not there as much as he should have been.
I was hoping to find a contractor to use for a much more extensive renovation of a house in the future, but it definitely won?t be Jet Development. While I appreciate the project manager?s efforts to fix what needed to be fixed and address my concerns throughout the renovation, too many of them should not have been issues to begin with, and I feel wouldn't have been with some of the other contractors I was considering.
I have been trying to complete this for a while now.. All I can say without going into a rage is make Shure everything is in writing and well spelled out, I mean every little detail or you will loss out and not get what you
were expecting. I am in the process of hiring someone who can help me get some problems corrected .Do not pay until you are happy. I listened to a sob story and gave final payment. ( I am a fool) I will not say don't use this company. I will never use them. That I can say. You live and learn ."Difficult to be reviewed when we did not Complete a project for this customer . We provide quality service for a reasonable rate. I believe had we been hired this review would have reflected out excellent service to our customers."
There was no coordination between the company and the ongoing work. I felt as though I was the Superintendent during this whole project. Upon my initial displeasure with the work being done, I spoke to the salesman (Jim) and he had been the only glimmer of hope that this would have a positive outcome. After our initial contact, I was told to deal with Alfredo (then later Jimmy). Alfredo's review of the sloppy initial work done was right on the money. He stated that they would tear out all the work that had been done and START OVER. At this point the entire project had been a TRAIN WRECK with poor workmanship and no company coordination to resolve my concerns of the workmanship being performed, and when I had questions about when the city would inspect their work, a worker here on site was in disbelief that I even asked the question. He was "gravely" concerned about this inspection, but was honest enough to point out several things that he himself performed that would NOT pass inspection. After my initial disbelief at his statement, we (I) called it a day. The next morning I headed straight to the Boulder City NV offices to check for the permit number(s) and schedule inspections on the work done thus far before we go any further. Surprise- Surprise! There were NO permits issued and no inspections due. At this point I did the best thing I could. I insisted the company get incremental inspections done as the work progressed.
There have been days when work started at 0630 and has not completed until nearly 2100 (9pm) with me being present each and every minute of every day, so I started to keep detailed files on all the vehicles showing up and departing during the period of time they were engaged in this effort. I also have a multitude of conversations that I recorded in a text format (as well as over 50 pictures) to keep track of all the miscues/mistakes and sloppy work done here as well as the personnel that have worked (or better stated, attempted to work) in my home. There were countless times that communication breakdowns caused re-work as well as safety issues for the workers, the dwelling itself, as well my own safety. On another note (that is meant to be positive) most of the employees have been very hard workers but their tooling, preparation (several times I had to loan them hand tools, power tools and ladders) and use of PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) is EXTREMELY poor which put many of the workers at risk of injury or death. Then there was the HUGE communication problem with a many of the workers not being able to speak (even acceptable) English and this has been another of the many obstacles I faced while working with this company and their workers.
Which brings me to a very serious point of contention. I issued them a check on July 8, 2014 to fund 50% of the work to be done. The work was not completed until over NINETY days later. YES THAT IS NINER-ZERO PLUS DAYS!
I will not and would not ever suggest that anyone utilize this company to do any type of work for them no matter how small the project may be. I have never been so resolute as to bring light to these types of companies. Don't just read on-line reviews of companies! You work hard for your money, and should ensure the personnel you hire work at the same level of professionalism as you would. In my thirty plus years serving this fine country we live in, living in several states, I have never seen this type of poor workmanship, leadership or lackadaisical attitude that this company and its leadership employs day in and day out.
"Jet Development strives to complete project in a timely efficient manner. I wont waste my time going into such details on the above comments other then to state we have been in business over 20 years and have more satisfied happy customers then dissatisfied. This is not what our customers typically say about us and request you read other reviews around the web and on our web site to get an accurate picture of our services. It is unfortunate that we could not resolve his numerous problems."
"I am confused by this comment as we where hired by this customer and in the process of completing his project. I do not have an Andy who works for this company so I am assuming it is posted to the incorrect account."
The job was finished on time and on budget. The quality of the finished product was excellent. As I said, they came highly recommended from a friend who had used them and was very happy with their services. I will definitely use them again if I have any projects that need done. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a company that is professional, provides quality service and work, and does what they say they are going to do in a timely manner.
When I ended up purchasing an existing house in Vegas, I called her when my house developed roofing leaks. She came out quickly, and came back for another look with her roofing subcontractor. They gave me a very competitive bid, and I went with her. The job was completed on time, and at the estimated cost.
