I waited a few days and called again. I had to explain that I purchased the equipment from them and was never shown how to use it.
FInally someone showed. He spent less than 10 minutes going over equipment operation. Put a few paint pen marks then told me that"pool school" was $80. I explained that I had been promised instruction when I purchased the equipment. I was told that they are busy and can't be expected to spend time explaining things to every customer. I was shocked. I had planned to use their pool cleaning service, but changed my mind.
A family member called the owner, Rick. He promptly made excuses and never took responsibilty for the shortcomings of his employees. He said, "my lead installer is upset because he explained things that day." Owner Rick was ready with all kinds of excuses and denials. he claimed that his employees did not do what I had said.
Customers are not right. The business is too busy to take care of customers. Employees lie.
Alchemist was the service provider assigned by my home warranty company, so the $75 cost is actually the co-pay for the warranty service. My in floor system wasn't pushing the water and debris around the pool as it should, so I was getting algae in spots and had to manually vacuum weekly. I am the second owner of this system and have no records or directions on how to operate the pool system. The technician, Josh (I think), took a look at my setup and immediately noticed that one of my valves was set wrong. A previous pool service company had moved the valves around to make the waterfall run constantly. So the valve wasn't allowing enough water pressure through the in-floor system to operate properly. He re-calibrated the valves, and the system works as it should. No more algae or debris problems! He also took the time to label the outlets on the system and direct me on how to operate things. He was VERY knowledgeable and professional. I highly recommend Alchemist and will use them in the future.
For the first time I got not only courtesy, but friendly, competent service. I have a large dog who does not believe in sharing the back yard with strange people, so I want service done at the same time each week and thus can make sure he's indoors at the correct time but not locked up without his breakfast half the morning. Not a problem for Alchemist Pools. I had questions about mysterious (to me) things about the system -- they were explained to me in layman's terms, without condescending tones. Suggestions were made as to doing things that pool companies do, and I certainly cannot blame anyone for that -- cleaning the pool filters, for instance. Yes, it is something I know how to do, but it is also a service they offer, as an example.
I can call them at any point, and although everyone I've ever talked to is completely professional, since it is a family-owned company I do not feel like a cipher speaking to a receptionist taking a message. Small extra touches like nipping up a leaf that just fell on the pool surface, even though you are packing up as finished, speak volumes for the way Alchemist does business.
When the water quality indicated a refill was due, it was arranged to pump out the pool with no trouble or inconvenience to my household, and as the walls were cleaned and the pool refilled the difference is sparkling water; my pool always looks fantastic.
I wish medical and other 'professional' offices could take lessons in service and mannerisms from this company, not to mention I wish I could get the same great results. I read the one dissenting rating, and do not understand the approach -- if you are a housewife and see a dusty ledge, you are going to use your favourite duster to take care of it; someone else may use a different way, but who can fault you in business for suggesting your way? Alchemist gets the highest marks I can give it!
Periodically, for an additional fee ($50), the filters are taken apart and thoroughly cleaned.
There have been only a couple of times I needed repair work. Once on a defective back-check valve in the hot tub. The other on the automatic pool floor cleaning system. Both repairs were done at a reasonable cost, within or at the quoted price.
