The experience is very disappointing. I bought a black diamond ring from a reputable jewlery store on line plus they have their own tv shows. I do not think it can afford sell fake stone and it still survives all these years. The main reason we went into the store, because one of the black accent stone is missing. Unfortunately they do not repair any jewlery there. The blonde lady did refer a jewler who does repair. My husband is always curious about the authenticity of the center stone since it is a 5 carat stone. So we have them check it out for us. I was shocked when the young blonde lady told us it is a fake. According to her, it is a moissanite heated to be black. The stone has scratches, that is why it cannot be a diamond, because only a diamond cuts another diamond. Her diamond tester went to red, but she said that is because her tester sensed the heat in the stone. I went to a second jewlery store right away and was confirmed it is indeed an authentic black diamond. They used two testers, adiamond and a mossanite. They showed me online information how to distinguish between diamond and mossanite. After I came home and did a little bit research myself. A black diamond is earth mined and it will have imperfections like pots and scratches. On the other hand, a black mossanite will be too much perfect since it is a man made stone. I will never use this jewler again in my life. The staff is not well trained, at least that blonde girl. If you have to use them, please be careful and educate yourself some basic gem knowledge, so you will know they are bullshifting you or not. There is nothing more hurtful when a jewler told your genuine diamond is a fake. Get a second opinion!
Description of Work: I went into the store to check the authenticity of a center stone and see if they can replace a loosen accent stone.

Response from Las Vegas Jewerly & Coin Buyers Inc
We regret [members name] had a disappointing experience. When she left the store, we had no indication that she was upset with the level of complimentary service we attempted to provide. We offered our time freely to her with no obligation and would have liked to hear from her directly first, so we could explain the diagnosis a little more clearly. Our gemologist-in-training helped her, with consultation from the senior gemologist. We do not see how age or hair color relate to the employee's competency. That being said, we do not recall telling [members name] that her stone was definitely a moissanite. While our diamond probe would only display a moissanite result, we advised her that it could still be a real diamond, and if so, it was likely heat-treated to achieve the black hue. (That specific probe had acted oddly with another stone and we have since sent it for repair and recalibration.) The ovewhelming majority of consumer-grade black diamonds are heat-treated; therefore, by the law of probability [members name] probably was as well. We did see inclusions in the stone that supported the claim of it being a diamond. While amateur internet research is all well and good, the only way to be finally and totally sure is to submit the stone to a reputable lab like the Gemological Institute of America. Because the stone was not for sale, we did not take the conversation in that direction. Gemological research has shown that probe testers can be fooled even when fully functional. A more conclusive moissanite test is the presence of double refractivity when looking through the bezel facets at the pavilion facet junctures. Because of the way the stone was set, it was hard to get a good viewing angle to look for this phenomena. But, an Angie's List reply isn't the place to get overly technical... It's our standard practice to always offer anyone that visits us a no-obligation consultation about their pieces, whether for sale or not. We ask [members name] and the Angie's List community to maintain a productive dialog with us about concerns like this, and we're willing to admit that we're human and cannot offer a perfectly delivered diagnosis each time. We're always looking to improve and we will communicate more clearly by checking for correct understanding in future consultations.

My experience with Las Vegas Jewelry & Coin was awesome! It started with a phone call to them for directions. Allyssa answered the phone and was very professional and helpful. The directions she gave me were so simple, I didn't get lost like I usually do. When I arrived, I was buzzed in the door and welcomed to their showroom by multiple people. I was led to a couch to wait until someone was available to help me. This was great because then I didn't have to stand around wondering when it would be my turn. There was a television near the couch that I was able to watch and I was offered snacks and every cold beverage you could imagine. I chose a freshly baked brownie and a diet coke to snack on while I waited. After about 5 minutes, Barbara walked up to me, introduced herself, and let me to a stool at the jewelry counter where I would sit while she appraised my jewelry. Barbara was very professional, yet extremely nice and very funny! At one point, I had tears streaming down my face because she was so funny! I felt at home while she was checking my jewelry and working on a quote. Once she was finished, which took about an hour due to the amount of jewelry I brought in, I was extremely satisfied with the amount of cash she offered me because I had no idea my stuff was worth so much! My experience with Las Vegas Jewelry & Coin was THE BEST and I will never go anywhere else!
Description of Work: I had jewelry that was givien to me that I didn't want or need, so I went to Las Vegas Jewelry & Coin to see what I could sell it for.

We got cheated. We asked them to take the stones out. She said a bracelet was cubic zirconium but it was real diamonds-I took them to another jeweler who said it was real diamonds.. She said she was going to take diamonds out of the rings and I can come back the next day. I called them but they keep hanging up or that the owner will call me back but he never does. They keep saying things aren't worth anything. One of the diamonds in the ring is a quarter caret diamond with 2 diamonds next to it. But they said all sells are final and they paid me for my gold. I was going to go back to get the stones that were taken out. The owners are Barbara and John. The employees, Russell and Alyssa, keep hanging up. She added everything up on a calculator and crumpled the receipt. She then told me the amount. I knew it was worth more but I have a lot on my mind with my mother dying. They tried to con me out of a very expensive necklace but I knew better. Beware of them!! They are thieves.
