Manicures/Nails
Staff was very friendly; much more friendly than your typical nail salon. The salon was dirty though; there was dust and dried nail polish all over the furniture and the salon equipment as well as bits of nails everywhere......it looked like no one had bothered to wipe the place down in months. Some of their equipment needed to be repaired. The lightbulbs in UV machine that you use to "cure" the gel on your nails were hanging by the wires....I was a little hesitant to put my hands in it, but I did.
The highlight of my visit was when one of the spa chairs began to smoke.....thank goodness no one was sitting in it. The staff did not know what to do.....it was several of us customers that had the commen sense to unplug the chair, remove the smoldering seat cushion and start fanning out the salon before everyone was overwhelmed by the noxious fumes. When the seat cushion was removed, a baby cockroach crawled out of the motor compartment of the chair and into the spa tub. It was more than I could handle. The owner of the salon showed up about 15 minutes later and didnt seemed to concerned about it.....he told his staff he would "fix it tomorrow". I cringe to think about this man "fixing" this spa chair on his own!!!!
OK selection of nail polish.....not alot of high quaility brands (i.e. OPI, Essie)......some of the polishes were thick and goopy and others were extremely watered down with acetone in an attempt to make them last "to the last drop" (a cheap salon trick). Poor selection of gel polishes.....only about 10 to choose from.
My gel manicure came out nicely in the end, although she: 1) forgot to soak my cuticles 2) gave me a pretty lousy hand massage.
My pedicure was OK......not alot of time spent on callous removal or massage; the polish bubbled when it dried.
I would give Avenue Nails an "D" rating due to their lack of hygiene and ratty equipment; quality of service was fair ......however, they are extremely personable and friendly and their prices are on target.....that is their strong point. If you are looking for a salon that has friendly staff, good prices and dont mind the occasional smoking spa chair or cockroach in your pedi tub, then you have come to the right place. Myself on the other hand, will not be a repeat customer.
