Lumber Liquidators, the seller of the hardwood and the store that directed us to A & J specifically as an approved contractor, refused to accept any return of this pristine, unused, unopened flooring (FYI: Lumber Liquidators is terrible - AVOID THEM!!), essentially disclaiming any responsibility for A & J's clear error in its estimate. Their position was that A & J should be solely responsible for the error and take the wood off our hands.
As the result of A & J's errors (and Lumber Liquidators' rip-off return policies) we were stuck trying to sell these unopened boxes (and another opened box about half full) that weren't needed for our job. Note that the boxes are 7 feet long and weigh 60-70 pounds: they are not easily stored anywhere.
The hardwood installation itself was done competently, although not without our having to point out some obvious errors in the caulking/sealing material used.. To his credit, Aric replaced that off-color material with other material that more closely matched the wood he was installing.
A & J also significantly underestimated the time necessary for the work: they assured us that the work would be finished in a single day but the work ending up taking two full days, and, due to time constraints, we ended up doing the cleanup ourselves.
Aric admitted that he "couldn't understand" why the job ended up taking so much less materials than he estimated. He personnally assured us that Lumber Liquidators would take the unopened boxes of wood and give us a refund (less a "restocking fee" - another obvious rip-off). When we informed Aric of Lumber Liquidators' refusal and their suggestion that he take the wood, he refused and suggested, jokingly, that we should just hide these 7-foot boxes under the bed.
Due to A & J's complete unwillingness to take responsibility for their errors, we strongly recommend you find another vendor to install flooring.
