York's estimate came in the lowest when we needed to install a new septic system about 5 years ago. We paid for a service contract where they were supposed to come out and inspect the system every 6 months. We suspected that they weren't actually coming out because the ground was never disturbed. From then on we insisted on making appointments when we could be home, and this became very difficult. Calls were not returned, and it usually took weeks for appointments to be made. Late last summer we began noticing an odor and called for service. Again, it took forever to have someone come out, and we (and the neighborhood) were living with the smell the whole time. York finally stated that the system had shifted because of a buildup of grease. I don't cook (ever), so the only culprit could be our bar soap, which had shea butter as an ingredient. I couldn't believe this could be the case, and I never saw the layer of grease, but we were at York's mercy. The tank manufacturer had gone out of business, but I researched the brand on-line, and tracked down one of it's representatives. He stated that it was an excellent tank with few problems. The representative couldn't believe that grease could have shifted the tank in solid ground. Another septic company came out at my request, and also seemed skeptical about grease being able to be the culprit. York finally came out with a backhoe, dug up the whole area, and reset the tanks. They left a big mess, including scraping the bark off of a precious tree. I received a bill for almost $1000.00, and since Michael knew we were putting the house on the market he demanded payment in less than 2 weeks or he stated that he would put a lien on the property.
I would never use this company again, and recommended another company to the new owner for any future problems.
"Our #1 goal is to service our customers with the utmost consideration & respect. We are a 42 year old company that has installed thousands of septic systems in the East Mountains & Estancia Valley. Unfortunately, this was a customer who did not pay their maintenance contract testing bills in the 1st year of their contract, which resulted in us not servicing the system again until there was another inspection due & the bill was paid, 6 months later. If we were not showing up they would not have had a bill due from Hall Environmental. Every time they had an issue someone from York responded. Due to the rains last summer there was some settling around the poly trash tank, but the bigger concern was the 3" of a white fatty layer developing inside the clarifier itself. As we began to troubleshoot the system, we asked [member name removed] if she dumped grease into the system, upon discovery she told us she did use a shea butter soap which could explain the build-up in the clarifier. We had the system pumped out and even the pumping company said they had never seen build-up like that before. The trash tank had to be reset due to roof drainage issues and we raked out the yard before leaving the residence. York Septic did give [member name removed] a credit on the invoice due of $100.00 which was the amount she said the arborist would charge her to treat the tree. As far as the payment, all invoices are do for services rendered at time of service, [member name removed] then told us she would make payments, we do not offer payment plans. The invoice being due had nothing to due with them selling the house or putting it on the market, it was due at time of service, which is our policy."
