The first project was a kitchen design. We are practical people of modest means who place more emphasis on function over form. We felt that Ms. Beres was probably used to dealing with clients for whom price was no object, who buy custom cabinets and high end appliances, and who want a lot of "style" because they who don't actually cook in or clean their own houses. She repeatedly made comments about us perhaps "popping" for a $6,000 Sub-Zero refrigerator and created designs that would probably be stunning to look at, but not very functional. In all fairness, Ms. Beres did make some very helpful observations and recommendations for improving our kitchen design. One was a "style" suggestion which we adopted and looks great. As a result of this process, we ended up with a lovely and functional design. For the second project, a master bath remodel, we consulted Ms. Beres again. This time, the result was less than satisfactory. Her design, though it probably would have looked good, was quite impractical in regards to easy construction or maintenance. We were doing the work ourselves, and so removing a bearing wall, for example, is not just a simple task (which she seemed to suggest). We rejected the entire design and used our basic plan with some help from our local home supply warehouse kitchen/bath designer.
