I called the company to take a look at the garden and the wooden posts that I'd supplied. I explained that I wanted the posts cut down to pieces to make a retaining border for an irregularly shaped, rounded flower garden. The guy said he could do the job and wanted a pretty steep price for it, but I hired him to come the next day. He showed up on time with his workers and began cutting the material. When I looked out the window to the back lot where the work was to be done, the guy, who I supposed was the owner, was pacing around talking on his cell phone while the workers were cutting the material. In fact, every time I looked out the window he was carrying on on his cell phone.
I then came outside about an hour later, and to my surprise, the "border" was the height of an animal pen. I told him that it wasn't at all what I wanted and that I wanted to finish what was going on right then and there. He refused to give me my money back, but said he would exhange the charge for material I needed to build a fence for the side of my house. He planned to simply take material from another home owner that was already on that customer's site and move it onto my front lot, assured that the other owner wouldn't even notice. He said he'd drop off the material the next day. After several calls, he kept putting me off but offered flagstone. I called a couple more times, and he even stopped by my house saying he'd deliver the material (either fencing or flagstone) later. A week or so down the line, he appeared at my front door unannounced saying he wanted to use the restroom. I thought it was strange since the address listed here as his business was only 5 blocks from my house & a public restroom was available only 2 blocks away at a shopping center. He compalined about wanting to change a bandage on his foot, so I let him go to restroom to do that. He was in the bathroom for about 15 minutes. When he came out, to my shock he asked me out for a date. I refused as politely as I could since I am a lady living alone and was afraid. I mumbled something about my (nonexistant) husband who was temporarily "away." He then left, thank heavens, and never returned nor did he drop off any material to compensate my $475. I reported his phony "business" practices to the Better Business Bureau, and he called one more time to complain about my having reported it. Do not believe anything on the side panel about "guaranteed" work, and I am sorry that I did not stand in the back lot and supervise every move. Unethical and exploiting, I would not recommend this underhanded man and his company to my worst enemy.
