Sun Valley Do It Best

My 14 year old daughter and I entered the store at 4 PM on Friday so I could buy a chain wrench. After a few moments, I started paying attention to the lyrics of the song that was playing on the store intercom system. The song, from "Panic at the Disco", included lyrics like "the poor groom's bride is a wh*re" and "close the G@dd@mn door", music that may be popular with underachieving adolescent subcultures, but which are inappropriate for a hardware store. At first, I thought perhaps one of the employees might be playing some sort of off-color prank while the manager was out, but none of the employees seemed disturbed by this, and the music continued. It became clear that this was not at all out of the ordinary. My daughter noticed the lyrics too and came to me in disgust. We left without making a purchase. Even if this music is popular with some elements of society, its business-killing properties show poor judgment on the part of the owners and managers of this store as it seems more likely to invite shoplifters than buyers. If the owners or managers are simply unaware this is happening, then they are not running their business competently, and I do not intend to reward their negligence with my business. Furthermore, I do not want to do business with employees who listen to such music. Doing business elsewhere is easy in Las Cruces or online, and I will.
