I went in because the car overheated. Possibilities: stuck thermostat, no fan belt, water pump out, leak in line (no, the coolant tank was full), clogged radiator. I got the $35 diagnosis. Apparently the force required to make the diagnosis cleared some obstruction and it's fine now. I was told the radiator was too clogged to do a radiator flush -- and quot;it was just too late.and quot; I joined Angie's List partly to get reviews on a radiator place in town, which is where I'm going to take it to get the radiator flushed. Pep Boys does a good job on standard things like replacing shocks or an alternator, but be wary of estimates for new stuff you didn't specifically come in for. Also be wary of and quot;we have to replace the rotorsand quot; (on the brakes) -- check their calibration standards -- chances are the rotors are fine, and there is no law that says you have to stay there until they replace them, even if they are not. I once watched a young couple there sold a bill of goods on brakes; they looked as if they'd have to choose between a $350 brake job and the rent. Not good.
