I provided the fixture and they were to install it. I had an estimate ahead of time for the /hr cost for an electrician. It was approx $63/hr which seemed OK to me. I did not do any cost comparison on this. The only materials supplied by the contractor were about 10 feet of wire and a double switch. This fixture replaced an existing one that had only one switch that activated both light and the fan which was a separate fixture. I wanted both functions in one fixture and bought such a fixture. The worker arrived on time and although it seemed to take a longer than necessary time to do this simple installation (over 3 hours) I had no complaints about that. When I was charged on my monthly account by my "landlord" the cost exceeded what I had expected & I asked for a copy of the invoice. I was charged $38.60 for "materials". When I questioned my "landlord" about this I was told it was for "wire and couplers". I priced these items at Home Depot and could have bought them for less that $10. My "landlord" agreed to credit my account with the total materials' charge. I felt this was fair since the contractor probably used wire and couplers that were part of their supplies and probably cost lesd than $5. The contractor also incorrectly applied what the invoice listed as "Dona Ana County GRT" to materials and labor. Only labor is subject to this tax. My landlord agreed to delete the incorrect tax on the materials. I would NEVER use this contractor again and suggest that anyone having work done in Las Cruces carefully check contractors' invoices.
