On May the 8th we made the first pool payment (half the total). At that time the contractor told us it would be a couple of weeks before he could start and that it should take 6 to 8 weeks to finish the job. He kept putting the starting date off until finally he began July 13th. The hole was dug, the pool was set in the hole on August 1st, (we paid $8000, the next fourth). A month later, after filling and draining it several times, on August 31st (we paid $5000 more for the deck and went out of town for the Labor Day weekend) he filled it half full of water, finding that it was still out of level, he used a piston car jack under the edge to jack it into level. This pressure caused the fiberglass to crack loosing all the water. He attempted a repair it himself instead of calling a professional or replacing the pool, filled the pool with water again. It cracked again loosing another pool full of water. Another shoddy attempt at repair (which was never buffed or finished) actually held. Discovering there were voids under the pool he drilled, probably, a dozen holes in the bottom of the pool and sprayed foam, the type used around doors and windows, in the holes. Without finishing the repair job he filled the pool with water. It held. He then contracted a cement man to do the pool deck. The man said he had done pool decks before but his finish job was very bad. I could have done better. We had already paid the contractor for the deck. But he was in jail at the time. So we ended up paying the cement co. and the finisher ourselves. The material taken from the pool hole was stored in the alley and in our back yard to be hauled off at a later date. My wife and I moved the material from our yard in my pickup, (almost 20 loads) to the alley to add to the other material. After he was released from jail, the contractor eventually scattered the material up and down the alley. We decided to bite the bullet and do the rest of it ourselves. God bless him, but I hope others read this before contracting with him. Oh, the finishing date was Oct.21, more than 5 months from our first payment. We never got to use the pool. By the time he finished our pool it was time to put the winter cover on. It was already too cold to swim.
Description of Work: We contracted to have a fiberglass pool installed in our backyard.
