He told us that he would fix anything that went wrong. He even went so far as to say he would guarantee his work for up to 10 years. However, there was a leak in the roof that caused an 8 foot section of the sheet rock to collapse after a large storm in July 2010. The reason that the roof was leaking was because he did not put any flashing around the roof vent pipes, when the building inspector saw it, he noticed there needed to be flashing around it all.  When I contacted him about the hole, he had his sons come out and try to fix the problem in the roof. They worked on it for a week, and then he came and said that he would not fix anything because he blamed it on the high winds of the storm, claiming that it was not his fault. We did not have 90 mile winds, as he stated, and there was no other damage to our home from storms. Because of the hole, water poured through the ceiling, ruining the carpet and the walls as it came in through the broom closet into the top of a bathroom.  We turned this into our insurance company. the insurance adjustor came out, and he confirmed that the roof was not properly built, due to no flashing around the vent pipes. We had more rains coming, so we had to call another company to come and put a new roof on as soon as possible. One of the other problems is that we asked for textured walls in the kitchen to match the addition. The walls are cracked and not holding up--since I first submitted this report, I have found two other cracks. He said he was 99.9% sure that it was OK to texture over paneling.  When we addressed that problem, he said that he would not stand behind the subcontractor that did it, even though he was the one that hired them and their work was in our bid. In the kitchen, he put in new tile that led into the hallway. The tile is not level at all, but he blames that on the house being old, which was never a concern during the bidding process.  The grout is coming out from between the tiles in the kitchen floor and in the hallway.  About a week after the concrete was poured for the patio, it started cracking. He did not pour footing to start with, nor did he use any rebar or joint expansions. Again, he claims that this damage is not his fault and that concrete will always crack. The building inspector confirmed that this was also faulty work by a contractor and was the fault of the contractor.  The building inspector said he was going to red tag the patio, which I assumed meant that he was going to have to come and repair it. The inspector later told me that they had 180 days to complete the work after getting the proper permits, but that has come and gone, and nothing took place.  We hired another contractor to fix that.  We had 3 new doors put in, and they also put new frames in. I asked why they were changing frames, and they said you should do that with new doors, which is not true.  The carpet was completely damaged when removing the frames.  They knew about this damage, because they had the tile guy trying to repair the damage with glue, which of course did not work.  When the work was originally done by A Custom Construction, he had his sons doing most of the work that wasn't sub contracted, as he said he was training his sons, but he was never around to supervise. We have had everything repaired by other companies other than the walls, the bedroom carpet, and the kitchen flooring.  When he came the last time with the inspector, he told me that he would fix the patio and make it look real good, if I would be willing to let him write a letter giving him an A+ and I would sign it. I said absolutely not. We still have not had a final inspection of the electrical work from the original construction, which was over a year ago. He didn't show up the day that the inspector came to do that, and later told us that he forgot about it and was at another job.
