American National Insurance

We chose this company on the recommendation of the real estate agent that we used when purchasing the house (which was a fixer -upper). They came and took pictures of the property BEFORE we had taken possession, therefore we had not done any work on the property. We paid a three MONTH premium to start the policy and began work on the house. 6 weeks after we moved in, we got a letter that the condition of the property was unsatisfactory to continue coverage and that our policy would be cancelled unless we addressed the issues on the attached list. We did so, at great personal expense (close to $2000 we didn't really have to spare) only to be told the day AFTER they cancelled our policy that even though we finished all the items on the list that they were not going to cover our home any longer... leaving us without ANY coverage until we could find an alternate company. Now my policy states that the premium for a year was $744 which comes out to $62/month. We paid $186 which was three months worth, The company is trying to say that even though ALL of our paperwork says $744 that it is actually $1344 and not only do I not have any money coming back, but that I owe THEM money. Their office does not return phone calls or emails, and not only am out the close to $90 I should be getting back from them, but I had to go spend several hundred dollars to get set up with a new company.
