It is my pleasure and privilege to write a review for David Espinoza. He replaced my damaged roof with new Woodmoor shingles. Words cannot expressed how much I am pleased with the performance of his workers, how much I admire his honesty, and how much I respect him for his reliability and responsibility.
He did everything that he promised me in the contract, bought all materials that I requested, and installed the roof exactly the way that he and I agreed with each other. I have learned so much about how a shingle roof should be replaced from him. During the conversations before the installment, he offered good suggestions and gave valuable advices.
Eleven people of his team showed up on time every day, worked very well with each other, and supported each other to complete a beautiful roof. Most importantly, they were friendly, responsible, and hard-working people. It was such a satisfying experience to watch them working together. I sincerely appreciate their good spirit and great work ethic.
David?s strong sense of responsibility, honesty, and integrity has placed him far on the top of the list compared to many other contractors. I spoke with 14 different contractors over the course of 21 months before I decided to go with David. I am truly impressed with his expertise, professional manner, patience, and kindness.
It was truly a gratifying experience to work with David. I must admit that he is a real valuable asset to Los Alamos. I regret that Angie?s List does not offer an option to include a picture (a picture is worth a thousand words); otherwise, you will see a fine piece of work done by David and his team. I am grateful to David for making this experience to be a real enjoyable one.
After only four weeks or so I called David to make sure he had received the signed contract and to check in on how things were going schedule wise. He informed me that he was going to apply for the permit and that he would be able to start sooner rather than later. Less than a week went by and I began to wonder about the permit when he called and said he had the permit and would be starting the job basically the next day. He said he would start on Thursday at 8:00AM. On Thursday morning at 7:58AM David and his crew of 10-12 men arrived and within an hour they had completely tarped around the entire house to catch debris and the old roof was flying off and into the one of several trucks onsite.
The entire crew was amazing from start to finish. The worked quickly, neatly and efficiently. David runs a well oiled machine to say the least. It took two full days to complete the roof. They did an excellent job and I am still amazed at how well they cleaned up afterwards. I expected to be finding roofing nails for weeks. I think I picked up a total of 3 nails around the entire perimeter of the house.
The new roof looks fantastic. They did an excellent job repairing a rotten joist as well as some rotten portions of roof deck. I also had some problem areas where water was collecting and not draining properly and they installed flashing and even repaired some damaged gutter. They never cut any corners. Each shingle was nailed in by hand. The ridge caps and valleys are straight as an arrow. They used water to cool the shingles and keep them from being damaged as the kneeled on them and worked their way up the roof. Towards the end of the job I saw a few areas that I thought needed a second edge trim and those areas were immediately addressed.
Working with David Espinoza Roofing was a pleasure from start to finish. He has been in business for 30 years and its easy to see why.
Highly recommended to say the least.
I would recommend him to anyone.
We chose to go with Espinoza and set the date for the first week of August.
I asked David if I could take photos of the crew as they worked, and he agreed. I have posted 23 photos on Picasaweb:

Espinoza contacted us about a week before the job was to begin and said he would be delayed a few days, which didn't concern us. He showed up the day before to leave some equipment. The crew arrived early the next morning and starting ripping off a section of the old roofing. It turned out we had three previous layers, so they had to remove two layers. They proceeded one section at a time so they had each section essentially finished by the end of their workday. They were very careful to put tarps down on the grass and walkways to catch debris.
We were amazed by how efficient and professional the crew was. The few times we expressed concern about some aspect of the job, David listened carefully and said he would attend to it. And he did. One day after they left, we had a rain storm and a very small leak developed from the ceiling of our family room, where the new roof had not yet been applied. I showed it to David the next morning and he said he would take care of it. He had his crew remove an 8' x 8' section of the roof and found the insulation was wet and the roof sheathing had deteriorated. They then put down new insulation and roof sheathing before roofing it. New tongue-and-groove roof sheathing was also installed in the other areas above our patio where we knew the wood was rotten.
The crew paid special attention to the edges of the roof and around stacks. They detached the gutters and installed three-inch flashing. All seams were sealed and covered with the same granules used in the top layer of the roof.
Espinoza finished the job in four days, just as he had said. After his crew cleaned up, you could hardly tell they were ever here. My inspection of the new roof revealed that attention had been paid to all the details. Walking around on the new roof, it seems very solid. Since the roof was installed, we had a significant storm with lots of sleet/hail. We saw no signs of leakage.
We were extremely happy with the work done by David Espinoza and his crew.
A year later, after the 2nd forest fire in the past 10 years threatened our community, we decided to replace the fire-vulnerable tar/gravel roof with a less flammable metal one. We asked Mr. Espinosa to provide an estimate and then agreed to have his company do the work. He arrived on the scheduled start day along with a crew of 9 workers. They began work, but, because clouds were gathering, left before noon without doing any work that would make leaks into the house possible. The following day work was resumed, and, on the next day, it was completed. On the day after completion, Mr. Espinosa came by to give me a "guided tour" of the work he had done, explaining the details of what had been done, and making suggestions about possible future needs regarding gutters and ice/snow barriers. The cost of the job was exactly the estimated cost.
Mr. Espinosa supervised the work from start to finish, and frequently discussed progress and issues of concern with us. His approach was highly professional, yet congenial and collaborative. I recommend him without reservation.
