I called them, two guys came, one seemed to know what he was doing, they did a diagnostic for $67 and told me I had a coolant leak that would cost $800 to repair. Then they came back and said due to the age of my unit, the coolant required would actually be $1500, and if they found the leak in the line, they wouldn't be able to repair it anyway and suggested a new unit. I asked them to have Josh Johnson, the CEO, email me an estimate. The attached picture is what i received via email at 10:39 am. I called the office and spoke to the secretary who said Josh was unavailable. I explained to her that I needed a more detailed estimate that included Brand, Model and warranty information so that I could do price comparisons BEFORE I agreed to anything. She said he would call me, he never did, so I called back at noon, she gave me his cell#, I couldn't get a call to go through so I texted him (2nd picture). He called me back pretty quickly, however WHILE WE WERE ON THE PHONE, unbeknownst to me, he already had his crane and guys there removing my old AC. Note that I had NOT agreed to his proposal, NEVER SIGNED his proposal, and had NO time to do any research or price comparisons. We hung up, I began researching the model# he had given me, and heard the noise from them on my roof. When I got outside, I saw the crane leaving, no one else to be found, and my old AC GONE, and a new one sitting in its place, kind of, it was offset from the original supporting frame by 8-12 inches (3rd picture). His guys showed back up to complete the install, his secretary called to get my credit card info, so I felt hijacked into this purchase and paid for it. She promised to text a receipt, I asked for a detailed receipt to also be emailed to me, which was NEVER received, even after I finally went down to their office, demanding the receipt as well as the warranty info. Of course Josh was not there, she put me on the phone with him and he promised an emailed receipt with warranty. Also never received, even after I texted him again two months later requesting it again and he promised to email, again, never received (4th picture). The ONLY receipt I ever got was the one texted to me, which I do not consider a receipt worth anything except them confirming they charged my card, but no relevant info (5th picture). Note that I live in Albuquerque, and was trying to get my house in Artesia ready to rent, so I was only able to come down to Artesia every two weeks or so, and when they did the initial install, they FORGOT to bring the thermostat control, which was eventually installed in May, after repeated phone calls and rescheduling. I also provided the initial installers with bottled water, which they finished and left the empty bottles along with various other trash from the install, including the old cover from my old AC, scattered in both my front and back yard. They did not pick up any of their trash. I will now be filing a complaint with the BBB.

My house has two heat pumps - one self-contained unit on the second-story rooftop and one split unit on the first floor. I used Dynamic last year to replace the upstairs unit and I was completely satisfied with their work. This year I needed to replace the compressor on the downstairs unit. Even though I had used them last year, I still went ahead and got a quote from another company for comparison. They beat the price by $200 and also threw in a programmable thermostat at no extra charge.
I called them on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, for a quote and they came out that afternoon. We agreed on the price and they came and replaced the compressor today, June 7, 2013. They told me that whenever they replace a compressor, they always check the evaporator coil as well. This surprised me, since we built our house 30 years ago and have had compressors replaced before. However, no one had ever checked the evaporator coil in all those previous replacements. We were shocked to see the amount of dirt and pet hair trapped in the coil, which was probably one of the main reasons for the compressor failure. They took the time to show me how to take the cover off and how to clean the coil myself every six months or so.
I was impressed with their professionalism and friendly attitude last year and this year's experience has just reinforced that feeling. I will definitely use Dynamic Heating and Cooling for all my future heat pump service and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

First, the Dynamic Heating and Cooling in Carlsbad is not affiliated with the office of the same name in Artesia. In the past they were connected but are now separate businesses. In September I called two businesses for a quote on replacing my old second-story rooftop heat pump. Dynamic was a little bit higher on the bid but they have a price guarantee in that they will beat their competitor's bid by $200. They did indeed honor this guarantee. This was a special order item. It took approximately 4 weeks for the factory to manufacture the unit. Dynamic kept me posted on the status. It arrived yesterday (10/22/2012) and they came out and took measurements so that they could build the housing for the unit. They came back early this morning (10/23/2012) and began working. After removing the old unit from its base, the pre-built housing was put in place. Then a crane hoisted the new unit onto the roof and they completed the installation. The entire job took about 6 hours and they worked steadily on it. They were extremely courteous and answered any and all questions I had. I am totally pleased with the installation and their professionalism. I would highly recommend the Carlsbad Dynamic Heating and Cooling.
