From design to install, Water Wise did an exceptional job on our front yard. It went from a water-guzzling lawn to an efficient xeriscape with drought resistant and local plants. Hunter ten Broeck also retained some elements of the pre-existing hardscape which helped save money on the project. His team of installers was professional, on time, and left the site spotless at the end of each day. They also walked us through the new irrigation system so that we can maintain our new yard. I highly recommend Water Wise for anyone considering a xeriscape conversion.

Irene from WaterWise stopped by to help me with a minor irrigation problem. It took her about 5 minutes to fix that problem but as we were leaving the backyard she noticed water coming out from under the stone wall that runs in front of a raised area that holds two trees. The leak was putting out a lot of water and she had to cut through tree roots to get to the cracked water line while at the same time avoiding landscaping light wires in the area. By the time she was finished she had mud up to her elbows. Irene has fixed many leaks for me over the years along with some plant replacement. Not only is she a great irrigation technician, she is a super nice person.

The agreement I had with Waterwise was to develop a landscape plan. Waterwise was to bill me for time spent on the plan, and I paid the charges as the plan progressed and as I was invoiced and billed for the time spent. I was informed that they were 4 to 5 months out on scheduling, and I would need to pay a $200 deposit to get on the schedule. I was NEVER informed that the scheduling deposit would be non-refundable. I inquired about Waterwise having a maintenance branch, and was informed that they could come out to the property about four times per year, and although I don't recall the exact figures, $300 - $500 (minimum?) per visit seems to stick in my head. I began to see that the plan, although it was very nice, was going to be a lot more maintenance than what I wanted, so I called Hunter several months ahead of time to cancel my slot so that he could move another customer up in his schedule. I was then informed that the $200 deposit was non-refundable. My bad for not addressing that when paying the funds. After several discussions and e-mails with Hunter, he agreed to refund my deposit, only to follow up that he was mistaken and that my deposit had been used to pay for additional charges for the plan . That was NOT what I was told the deposit would be used for. If there were additional charges, he should have invoiced me as per our agreement. In my estimation, Waterwise was not truthful and forthcoming about the "non-refundable" deposit. Waterwise did not live up to their part of the agreement, since they agreed to invoice and charge me for the development of the plan as it progressed, which obviously they didn't. Then Waterwise indicated that they had used my deposit to pay for additional time spent on the plan, thus reneging on refunding my deposit that Hunter had reluctantly agreed to.
Response from Waterwise Landscapes Inc
"We did an initial design for the client per his request knowing that the fee was $[Member Information Removed]/hour. The client then gave us a $200 earnest deposit to hold a space in our installation queue. The client then asked for revisions of the plan. Part of the charges for that work was deducted from the holding deposit. When the client decided to not have us do the work he requested the deposit be returned however after checking our books we found that the deposit had already been credited to the client."

Another excellent job by Irene from WaterWise Landscaping. I can always count on Irene to show up on time, work very hard, and leave the area where she worked looking neat and clean. On top of all that she has a nice personality and is eager to please.

I was disappointed with my interactions with Hunter, the owner. When we started the project, I stated I wanted to make sure that I got the Albuquerque Water Authority rebate. Hunter responded that there was a process that was need to be followed and all of his projects got the rebate. If he had added that the process needs to be started now, we would be fine. The next time we discussed it was after the project was done. I find out that you need to call the city a month before the project starts to follow their process. I lose $1035 because Hunter did not care enough about his clients to mention that the process needed to be started before the project began. The work was good, but expensive. Hunter engaged the city and the city made it right. I did not lose the money.
Response from Waterwise Landscapes Inc
"I reached out to the Water Authority and was able to secure the full rebate for the client."

It was Irene who once again responded to my call for help. Irene has been doing irrigation system repairs and other small jobs for me for several years. She always arrives cheerful, full of good humor, and eager to fix any problem I might have. It gives me peace of mind knowing she is available to help me when I call.

Excellent! Patiently answered all the questions that we had from best type of plants for our yard to the watering schedule. Workers were very helpful and flexible during the work as we made some last minute tweaks. Also did reinstalled pavers in the backyard with precision.

Estimate was low but hourly rate was good. I didn't think they could do the job in the time they estimated. They still completed the job in less time than I have had it take in the past and did an excellent job.

First we called in Waterwise over 2 years ago to provide a plan for landscaping our yard that had 9 years of tenant neglect. Hunter has good vision and we loved his plan. The plants he used have proven to be good choices for lower water usage and continued nice appearance. Waterwise also put in an irrigation system that continues to work well. About 4 times a year they come by for irrigation system maintenance and to clean up the yard (weeding, trimming, raking the pea gravel, etc). Initial extensive work was rather pricey, but was good quality and has held up well. Now the maintenance visits run about $200 or a bit more each visit.

My yard to a long time to get done.  Easily 6 wks longer than we agreed.  There were numerous crew members and they were overseen by a man I had not met.  Pot smoke wafted through the air and I became quite nervous.  I later learned this 'overseer' had never managed a project before.  Finally, most things were completed.  The plants looked so small and there were so few.  I asked about this and was told they would grow.  Today my plants are still small, many have died.  Hunter refused to replace plants that had died within several months of the project.  If I was lucky to get an agreement to replace plants, they were never replaced.  While this was a simple unprofessional event, things were about to get much worse.
My budget was 4K.  I received a bill for 9K.  I spoke to Hunter and let him know that, as per our contract, I would have needed information on how the project was running over.  500 to 1K, understandable.  Almost 50% over, not so much.  He became upset and told me that he lost so much money on this project (my small yard) and he just did not know what to do.  I later spoke with his wife and the bill was brought down, 2K over.  As mentioned, none of my plants have the beautiful flowers I saw in the books.  Then during heavy rains, the patio and garden flooded.  I took a photo and let Hunter know he needed to take care of the flooding.  He was irate.  I threatened some legal action.  He ended up putting in 2 French drains, drains that should have been put in with the rest of the garden plan.
Today, my yard has an interesting patio, with hardly any plants.  I have added fertilizer, watered appropriately on a drip system.  I will have to begin again with another landscaper, eventually.  Hunter never spoke to me about increasing my budget to achieve more of what I was looking for, he hardly came by as the landscape was being done.
I thought I was working with a great company.  I was so wrong!!!  I really advise other people to use companies that are able to function in a more professional manor.  Hunter promised a lot, did a very poor job, never made things right and was very unprofessional.  Don't use this company!!!!!

"The install for [Member Name Removed] was done in the Spring of 2012 (not 2014). There were time overruns due to some unexpected things (the concrete patio we removed was about 3 times thicker than standard patios) and we had a new foreman. When we met for the final walkthrough we agreed to cut the final bill by over $5000 ($5249.88) . We came out for several more visits in 2012 for warranty work and extra maintenance work at the clients request. In the spring of 2013 [Member Name Removed] asked that we remove the patio we had contracted to build and refund it's cost even though it was exactly what was agreed upon. I offered to finish the replacement of warranty plants and install two french drains at no cost to her to settle all of our obligations. We agreed on this in June of 2013 and all that work was completed then.I feel we worked very hard to meet her concerns by cutting her final bill back significantly and even providing additional services at no cost. The crew leader on this project was demoted after this job and hasn't worked for us for over two years. His replacement is still running that crew and has drawn great praise from many clients. We take great pride in going out of our way to satisfy clients. We have many very positive reviews here that are far more representative of our feedback from past and present clients."

Went great!  I have a yearly contract with them for four visits of six man hours each.  They have been caring for my yard since 2007.  They are knowledgeable and hard working. My yard always looks great and I do very little in between visits.
I also used them to install french drains around my home as was recommended by the inspector when I bought the house.
In addition I hired them to design and install a redo of the back yard including a large center island of plants, paths and mulch.  They came in under the projected cost for that project.
They will do what they call "small jobs" separate from the contracted visits.  I have had them plant trees and bushes for me.
I have been very pleased with their professionalism and hard work.  I strongly recommend Waterwise Landscapes.

Very professional and yet personal service.  Met with the owner several times to develop a plan that met our needs.  The work itself was done professionally and quickly.  They have replaced and are replacing the few plants that didn't make it.

Extremely professional.  Always lets me know when they are coming and they are always on time!

Yard clean up crew came and did an outstanding job.  Price is very reasonable.  Payment is easy and can be done on-line.

I couldn't be any happier.

I highly recommend these guys.

Bobby initially came out to assess the situation, provided sevaral suggestions, then returned to his office to confer with the landscaper. We were then provided a written estimate via email. Once we accepted and he and his team returned to complete the work. There was such a huge volume of weeds that our quote included multiple hauls if needed! Bobby and his team were able to get all of the weeds into a single trip. Everyone was very courteous, punctual, and thorough to get the job done. We have discussed future "maintenance" on this particular patch of land, and are considering landcaping solutions from Hunter, the Waterwise landscaping guru.

It did not turn out well with Waterwise Landscapes. I found that he was highly overpriced. First of all, the design was inappropriate which made it overpriced. The design was excessively over done compared to what I showed him and what I told him that I was interested in. Actually I chose not to hire him to do any work. I got a better job done much cheaper than somebody else. It was way too elaborate for the area. The quality of the design was an A, I would give him a D for the appropriateness. The design was carried out very professional, very well the problem was he didn't listen to what I want.
