Not good! Initially, it appeared to have gone ok and we were happy, but as the fence weathered over the course of 18 months, it became abundantly clear that Scott's Fencing had used the wrong nails and the fencing had staining on the middle and lower row of nails over the ENTIRE length of the fence. It's important to use galvanized nails to prevent streaking and staining on the planks. We waited, as suggested by Scott's, for the wood to dry and then had a contractor apply the stain. The painter said, "they used the wrong nails, you should not have this staining!" I contacted Scott's to see what they would do; they gave me the run around. I called the supplier of the nails and the other fencing contractor to get their take, and they both said we should not have gotten the staining. Scott's response is they have a one-year warranty and they would not address the problem, and this type of staining, depending on the weather, will not appear within the one year. We wish we had gone with the less expensive contractor for this project but chose Scott’s due to the reviews. We felt it important for future potential customers to know that they don’t back their product or address customer issues.

The 3 man crew that put up the fence were very personable, professional and completed the job in the time they had estimated.

A section of my long fence fell because it was just too old -- about 20 years. Scott said that the ground was too hard to put in a proper fence. So, he bought wood to make sure that the old fence would hold together. He will be coming out in March to complete the job. He did a great temporarily job of keeping the old fence together.

We expect jobs to be done well, and we believe the management of Scott’s has the same expectation. However, it really depends on the crew. We had good reason to expect high quality when we hired them. In January 2012 our neighbors hired Scott’s to replace a wood fence between our properties. The job was done with excellence. The crew was quick, efficient, and accurate in all respects. The materials used to build the fence looked great, and we were very pleased with the result. We wanted to have the other two sides of our backyard fence rebuilt this summer, so the obvious choice was to go with the same company. The estimator was very punctual – for the second appointment. He missed the first one because his computer had failed to notify him. We got the estimate several days after he came out. He answered our resulting questions promptly, accurately, and courteously. Obviously he had paid close attention to detail.
Day 1. The crew arrived on schedule to begin the two-day job. At the end of the day, the results were quite disappointing. Four or five of the beams were severely split where nailed, and a number of pickets were split as well. There were two areas where numerous nails had gone all the way through and were sticking out of the beams, and all the nails were embedding too deeply into the pickets. Finally, the beams were not the same as those that had been installed on the first section of fence six months ago as we had expected.
Day 2. The vice president/production manager was very professional and responsive and came out first thing before the crew started their second day. He told us the beams that had been used on the first section of fence were a special item and were no longer available. We would have preferred that the estimator would have told us that. The VP asked the crew to replace the split beams and pickets, and he asked them to lower the pressure on the nail gun. If the gun still wasn’t working properly, he said he would get them another compressor. Finally, he arranged to come back several days later to walk through the finished job with us. After the job was completed that day, we went out to look at it again. Several of the beams were clearly not level. Relative to the beam above it, one beam was 2 and frac12;” higher on one end than on the other end. More pickets were split. The nail gun still wasn’t right. The nails were still embedded far too deeply into the pickets, and it was obvious that the gun was missing regularly. A number of pickets have 5-6 holes in a single area caused by the pressure of the gun, although there was no nail in most of them. It does not look good.
Day 3. The VP came back as scheduled to view the problems, and the crew came back that afternoon and dealt with them as they could. Re-dos are never as good as when the job is done properly the first time. We were disappointed that the quality of this job, even after the corrections, was noticeably inferior to quality of the job done on the first section of fence six months ago. Not to leave the wrong impression, though, the fence looks basically good and is certainly a great improvement over the old fence.

The company called me back with in 2 days and scheduled an in-person estimate for that week. The estimate was very fair and they even advised me on expanding without adding hardly any more money. We scheduled the job for later that week. While I was at work, they tore out the old fence (~100ft), installed a new one, added a gate and fixed my existing gate. The yard was clean, and the fence is great! The quality is actually much better than I anticipated. I highly reccomend them!

Installation was neat, clean and on time. Gate functions reliably except when windy; would have preferred they had told us that in strong winds it would not operate well so we could have chosen a heavier duty mechanism.

I'm needing additional fencing now (2 yrs later) and when I called for another estimate I asked if they would repair the orignal installation of that gait since it never worked right and they were not cooperative about doing that.. so I'm looking for additional estimates for my ongoing needs.
