Positive Energy Solar - Albuquerque

We worked with numerous Positive Energy staff over the course of our project, including Sales Personnel, Engineers, and Installation Technicians. Everyone treated us with the highest degree of respect and provided exceptional customer service. They made numerous onsite visits (wearing masks), and provided quick response and answers to questions we had. When a new, more efficient panel came out on market, they contacted us to let us know and demonstrated how we would benefit financially and in energy production from making a change. They even brought their own porta potty to the job site so they wouldn't jeopardize our home and/or their staff with potential COVID. If we had to do this project all over again, we'd pick Positive Energy Solar in a heartbeat!

I was very pleased with the services provided by Positive Energy Solar. I ultimately chose them due to the many positive reviews on Angie's List and from a friend who used them in the past. A competitor was slightly less expensive and offered a better warrenty but I wanted to go with a company that has been in business longer just in case my system needed work in the future.

Their service was excellent all around. Because the roof was probably 13 years old, so we had the roof replaced, and then they placed the panels in the new roof. They obviously knew what they were doing.

This company was great, from our salesman, Chris, at the beginning, to our final inspection by Don at the end. Not knowing much about the details of solar, only that we wanted to be more environmentally friendly, it seemed like we asked a hundred questions. They were all answered patiently and professionally, from how it all worked, how to finance and tax credit questions...to how to use the online monitoring when the install was complete. The installers did a beautiful job and everything looks great...very, very professional. We are so excited and thankful to be able to do our part in taking care of our earth. This company is exceptional and we highly recommend them!

From start to finish Positive Energy was very straight forward and professional. Due to permits and inspections required by the city and PMN this is a lengthy process with many steps involved. Both Positive Energy and PNM constantly updated the process and honored all of the time windows that they gave me for the different steps. I checked with four different solar companies before choosing Positive Energy. They were the only company that was able to place all of the panels that I required on my south facing roof. This is due to the fact that Positive Energy has the smallest panels. Positive Energy explained every step involved in a manner that was easy to understand. The installation group was very professional and took the time to explain exactly what they were doing. They were very neat and cleaned up completely afterward. They provided me with both written and electronic copies of all the drawings, permits, manuals and warranties. I have never dealt with a home improvement corporation that took so much time to explain the process involved and have highly professional professional employees at all levels.

From our first meeting to gather information on a solar energy system, through design, permitting and installation, all aspects of Positive Energy Solar were completely competent and professional. We couldn't be more pleased with their outstanding service and helpfulness. The job was completed before the expected due date and on budget. We have only good things to say about our experience.

Positive Energy Solar completed their contractual obligations on time just before 31 December 2014, as promised.  Now in the 11th month of production (November 2015), the installation has basically met our electricity needs.  In addition we have received PNM checks for energy renewable credits when production is in excess to our needs.  Basically the system is near balance.
I would highly recommend them for their excellent project execution.  Their entire team performance was outstanding.

I thought everything was awesome. HOWEVER, What I thought that I was getting and what I signed off on are two different things. Conversations leading to the purchase indicated that my system would cover my electric costs which average $250.00 a month. Using the PNM formula for solar conversion I required approximately 12 KwH. I explained that I desired a buffer on that so I increased the order by 2 panels. But wait, why use the PNM formula when Positive Solar has the experience and they have their own "algorithim". Don't worry. Whatever.
Turns out that my installed system is less than 10 KwH. My first full month of having my system on line saved me a whopping $22.06! Although this is winter, and days are short, I no longer have high hopes of this investment paying off. 
Also, the tax credit is NON-refundable. In other words, if you have $10,000.00 credit and you have a 5,000.00 tax bill, the remaining $5,000.00 is not refunded to you. This was not explained during the sales pitch.
On the bright side, the crew was outstanding.

If the system proves to be productive, I'll update to reflect such.

UPDATE: (28JAN2015)

 I was paid a visit today by one the owners of Positive Solar. We went over my concerns and ironed out what appears to be a few misunderstandings on my part.

To begin with, they were not familiar with the PNM calculation to determine required KwH. After reviewing the formula, he
called PNM and they confirmed that their formula was not necessarily accurate and that they depended on the solar companies to more accurately determine the requirements.

We also seemed to agree that a more thorough explanation of tax benefits might be helpful.

All in all, if the system does not function as advertised after one year of operation, they come back to remedy the problem
at no cost to me.

I have raised their grade to an ?A? based on my visit today and will update again should ?system vs usage? issues arise
during the coming year.

The effort to make the customer happy compels me to give a strong recommendation to Positive Solar,

This is a wonderful company.  They are not just your average, run of the mill corporation.  they are employee-owned, and they are a "B" corporation, which means that they have gone through a process to allow them to conduct their business in a socially responsible way, not just in a way that maximizes return to shareholders.
Everyone from the company whom we dealt with was terrific.  Kate, the woman who first met with us, is knowledgeable and did a great job of educating us about the various options and the benefits of working with Positive Energy.  Their engineer, Shem, is lovely to work with and did a great job of mapping out the optimal position for the panels.  They were always responsive to my requests, showed up on time and did the work as planned.  They guys who did the actual installation were pleasant and prompt, and cleaned up completely after the work was done.
Our only gripe was that it took several months from the time we first met with them before the system was finally installed.  However, we learned that they had lost several members of their installation crew over the summer, and that contributed to the delay.
Overall we would definitely choose them again if we had it to do over.  Working with Positive Energy has been an excellent experience.

Project was completed and solar went active November 1, 2014. Still evaluating the efficiency of the 20 panels we installed as to whether more are needed. The staff at Positive Energy could not have been more professional, efficient, friendly, informative or helpful. This project was unusual from the get-go because of underlying roof issues, but Positive Energy rolled with the punches and made sure every issue was addressed. They managed problems as they arose and kept me informed of their actions and logic every step of the way. There are less expensive companies around but the quality of the panels was definitely inferior.Positive Energy is the way to go if you want it done right!

From start to finish. What a nice bunch of professional people to deal with. The sales people had all the answers, including how to do this job for no out of pocket costs. 40% is paid for by Tax credits and the rest can be financed at a current rate. Minimal paperwork, and monthly payments to the loan company instead of PNM for about 8 years. The monthly payment is the same as my average electric bill each month. In 8 years I will be using FREE electricity in my home for longer than I can foresee. The solar panels have a 25 year warranty on them, and based on the research we saw, there is little to go wrong, even after the 25 year 'bumper to bumper' warranty. Every workman showed up on time and did the work. They made my solar structure invisible to my neighbors and really perfect for my property. They have been amazing to work with because they did exactly what they proposed to do, it cost what we expected, the tax credits have already come to us, and it works like a charm. We wanted to do solar now in case the Federal tax laws changed any time soon. It really was easy.

I can't say enough about this company, from sales to installation and everything in between!  The office manager, Maureen, was pleasant and a joy to work with. The technical sales advisor, Thomas, was very professional and never made us feel pressured. The installers were extremely polite, neat and competent.  The consultant, Shem, went above and beyond and was there to help us every step of the way. Everyone we dealt with were professional, prompt and courteous! 
In conclusion, Positive Energy is not the cheapest solar company out there, but most often you get what you pay for.  After researching solar panels, we feel we got one of the best quality panels out there, with the best warranty.  The customer service was outstanding as well!  We have, and will continue, to recommend this company to anyone interested in converting to solar energy.

Positive Energy is an outstanding company, and it did an excellent job for us.  They responded quickly to any concerns or issues, charged a competive price, and did a quality job.  They did so well, in fact, that the power company stated that Positive Energy's work was the best that it had seen.

It was a good experience, and everything went well.  The salesman was very knowledgeable, and we had a lot of confidence in what he was telling us.  Furthermore, they charged a competitive price and responded to quickly to an issue which we appreciated.

They did a great job, stuck to their estimate, and completed the work on schedule.  I haven't had to call them back since that time.
